Program flea treatment for cats

My cat is currently giving me daggers and running away from me. My crime? Putting Advantage flea treatment on her neck last night. Every month we have this situation and I'd really rather not go through again it as it ruins our relationship. I swear she can count and works out when it's likely to happen!

We used to use oral Program years ago with a different cat, but moved to the spot on ones as they were easier and he was fine with the 'soggy neck'.

Can anybody advise whether oral Program is still effective? I don't want to be swapping to something that doesn't work (like Frontline).

I don't know about Program but my cat absolutely hated Advantage, there was always lots of complaining when we put it on. However she doesn't seem bothered at all by Advocate, so it might be worth a try? I do also warm the pipette in my hands slightly before applying it and that seems to help too.

Does your Vet have a different product that you could try?

I use Frontline, which lasts 3 months and not had any problems with cat behaviour.

I think it's the liquid she hates rather than the type. I do try and warm it in my hand a little.

We stopped using Frontline on a cat as it stopped working on the fleas in this part of the country (I was sitting with him on my lap next to my MIL - who doesn't like cats - when I spotted a flea wandering across his face! Fortunately she didn't notice.).
