Problem is they have probably concluded that if you pay £40 a month on that large a debt you are going to take an age to pay it. How about offering to increase your payments, like it or not, it is your debt and i believe they have been reasonable to freeze the interest.0

and the OP has been reasonable in offering £40 a month on a very low income.
reasonableness has to go both ways. It's a health benefit ...0 -
Just visited this site after having not really bothered for a while.
Reason for giving up was the pathetic responses from most people.
It seems nothing has changed at all....whilst Martin's intentions are to be applauded.....
99% of the users on here post nothing of any use whatsoever and should take a look at themselves.
I'm off to not bothering again....at least with the weekly email there is no rubbish to sort through.0 -

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice received so far. It is very much appreciated.
I live in Scotland so I know that the law is slightly different up here regarding CCJ's and the like. I will phone my local Citizens Advice Bureau tomorrow as suggested and see what they suggest.0 -

You have borrowed the money and therefore you should pay it back.
They could legally take anything worth value that you own to recover the debt.
As you are on benefits it would be worth your while in constructing a financial statement which shows all your income and your expenditure, submit this to your creditors with a realistic amount that you can afford to repay them. If they reject the offer at the first stage (which is the usual practice) then resubmit it to them.
Take responsibility for your actions. Bad debtors are crippling this country slowly.
I actually meant to click the quote button.0
