Yes I do actually,, ( just done an excellent rye loaf and working on my own sour dough recipe ) can t do the ridiculous "do your own butchery " nonsense tho as I am a veggie. .Spot on! Do you bake your own bread, grow your own veg, butcher your own meat, do your own plumbing and electrics? I agree with anyone saving money by doing repairs and maintenance whenever they can, but some jobs are best left to the professionals who have paid for expensive tools, rigs, overheads, insurance and materials, and learned how to carry out their work over several years of experience and courses.
The only problem with the front wheel bearing is pressing out the old bearing, otherwise its a doddle.. I certainly do my own plumbing and basic electrics as well as tiling, decorating, double glazed window fitting, bricklaying etc etc.
I do like to keep away from tradesmen if possible , I ve been robbed that often by them, especially plumbers. I d sooner diy
I would expect the main agent garages to be dishing out a bill of north of £120 quote for this "one hours labour job".I d guess the bearing alone is over £50 ish for a genuine one for a standard non luxury car.0
