A huge new leak of financial documents has revealed how the powerful and ultra-wealthy, including the Queen's private estate, secretly invest vast amounts of cash in offshore tax havens

The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, has got hold of a shed load of documents (as in 13.4m of 'em) originating from"Appleby, a Bermuda-based legal services provider".

No wrongdoing says Appleby, but there are 100 media groups including BBC Panorama having a dig through the pile.

    Many in the US and Europe consider the UK a tax haven for certain kinds of investors. So the moral outrage seem a bit hollow.

    Ashcroft's name will be familiar to anyone who reads Mr Hislop's rag.

    Inventive use of tax havens has been going on for a long time, and on an industrial scale. The politicians may display faux outrage from time to time, but there's no real appetite for change.

    There is no suggestion that the Queen has evaded Tax. And as she is Queen of the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, why shouldn't she keep some of her money there?

    Good to know that while the country has been going through the austerity ‘era’, the Queen and her advisers have been diverting her money away from the UK tax man. It beggars belief.

    She has been voluntarily paying income tax for the last 25 years
