im a uk born full resident. i always try to minimise the tax i pay. 67% of my non property wealth is in isas and pensions so i dont pay any tax on this. the rest i will look to reduce tax paid by making full use of isas etc.
if i could pay 0 tax and get away with it i would.0 -
Many public sector workers will have a db entitlement that would require a dc pot of over £1m to provide. Where any of this is funded are all the workers aware of every fund that has been used and where it is based?
Apart from the LGPS, I don't believe any of it is funded at all. So it would not be an issue.:)0 -
I'll wait to see what revelations actually come out of this.
So far we have had the following revelations (applicable to the UK);- that dear Brenda had a few quid invested offshore
- that the Lord Ashcroft has a 450 million trust in Bermuda, and that he might well have misled people over his exact tax status in 2010-15
- that there are questions over the ownership of Everton FC
- whilst some chap named Bono invested some money in a fund based in Malta
There will be new revelations in tonight's Panorama apparently.0 - that dear Brenda had a few quid invested offshore

Oh look, we now have three actors who have funnelled cash to Mauritius.

Now, that is tax avoidance. Of the kind that HMRC can challenge.0 -

You couldn't expect a public service worker to consider such matters. Most of my colleagues don't even know how valuable their DC pension is. They don't tend to be in public service for financial reasons to start with you see. All I know Michaels is that I'm on PAYE and don't get away with anything. No one pays me cash in hand and I don't have the access to a rich accountant to find me a nice little tax avoiding vehicle.0 -

Of course they don't. It's just pure dumb luck that they have a pension benefit long since lost by almost everyone else.
The solution of course is to take it off them. What they don't know they've got, they won't miss. Instead, just pay them whatever pension income the average private sector worker on their salary gets and use the savings to help the public finances.
As selfless altruists who work in the public sector for the joy of public service, and in no way for the short hours, long holidays, total unaccountability, job for life and gold-plated pension, they will be thrilled with this outcome. Everyone's a winner. All I know Michaels is that I'm on PAYE and don't get away with anything. I'm on PAYE too and neither do I, but I do have access to ISAs. Obviously, being in the public sector, you don't. Diddums. In fact, even though I pay for about six nurses every year, I even have to wait for one with everyone else who pays nothing and just takes, should I need one (although CIGNA helps here).0 -
am i the only person in the world who would not avoid/evade tax, even if i could? maybe that's why i'm not rich... i think tax is something every person should pay to support and live in the country they're in... it wouldn't cross my mind not to pay it.CCCC #33: £42/£240

To claim that most tax payers would take full advantage of all legal tax avoidance measures, is a sharp and deceitful argument.
There is a world of difference between those who struggle to use up all of their £20,000 isa allowance, and those with multiples of £20million to stash away.
Why should her madge not declare a conflict of interest, politicians have to. Yet she just signs the royal assent and gets lots of benefits she can pretend to know nothing about; and convinced us unwashed will never find out about.
This is beyond parliamentary fiddling of expenses, it’s a whole new ball game.
The campaign to make Bono history, should now include the royals. All totally unnecessary in a sane world..._0
