Any regular noise in the vicinity over which I'd have no control. Barking dogs and helicopter pilot training are two I've come across, not apparent on the first inspection.
Structural problems are always fixable and might be excused, depending on what else the property offers.... and the price.
Historic flooding in extreme weather is another no-no. There's quite a few houses that were affected a few years ago, now up for sale on the Somerset Levels.0 -
Any visual eyesore like large electric pylons or substation,
anything smelly ie near take away shops / restaurant
Limited access
No private parking
unkempt neighbour properties
I don't mind road noise but no flight path or trains
shared gardens

The only things that would put me off would be location related, things that cannot be changed and are outside my control.
Issues with building regs come up often, but if something has been standing for years it can't be that flawed. Most internal issues can be fixed if the price is right comparative to condition.0 -

Yes, the list could be huge, but I took the question to mean matters that become apparent only on closer examination/staking out the place/viewing paperwork etc.
These days, Street View and an array of other sources pick up quite a lot of obvious things from the comfort of an office desk, but it wasn't always so. We went on many a 200mile jaunt in the early noughties, only to go :doh::doh:when we arrived!0 -
no matter how suitable the house and location, if I see leylandi on the boundary, on the neighbours side, I would not even get as far as an offer. Street view and satellite view on RM are proving their worth already. If I am not sure then I do a drive in the area. I have not been to view any yet, I am not a time waster. I am a cash buyer and am biding my time. Off road parking, location, orientation for me and I hate low dark ceilings ie beams and dark cottages0

Given most of these problems are pretty obvious from a visit of the property, why would you even put in an offer on somewhere which had them in the first place?!?
There are very few issues which can't be resolved, at the right price. I'd only pull out if I couldn't reach an agreement with the vendor or felt that the trust had broken down between us, or in resolving any issues which came to light, realised couldn't really afford the place.0 -
Thanks everyone lots of similar type of no-no’s and stuff that is more about the price to offer.
On researching the neighbourhood and neighbours, have you ever done some digging on social media to identify any issues on the street, new developments happening or any annoying neighbour hobbies etc. My wife suggested it but though we might get what we need from a reccy of the street.
