A sandwich is two slices of bread with a filling, sliced into two.

There's no agreement. My cousin worked in catering all her life, and she knew better than to ask people "how many sandwiches do you want". It was always "how many slices of bread?".

"Butty" must be where the American "buddy" came from, I would never have thought that it was Welsh originally!

    That's because you're not Welsh, I expect! ;)

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)

Can you imagine how great it would be if you had a sandwich toaster that didn't cut your toastie in half but just sealed the bread around the edges. You could put one slice of bread in, squash it down to make a hollow in the centre, crack an egg in it, put the other slice of bread on top, and cook. You'd have lovely golden crispy toasted bread with a perfectly cooked egg inside.

I feel there is a gap in the market for this, I must phone a toasted sandwich manufacturer immediately.

When you used to be able to get size 4 eggs, one of those fitted perfectly into one side of a Breville sandwich toaster with a spoonful of baked beans.

Ah, student food. Takes me right back to things like tins of potato & chickpea curry and Chilli Beanfeast packets...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

A buttie should contain chips or bacon. Anything else is a sarnie. :)

A bacon one is a bacon sarnie.

    Now, now, behave its -

Mayo on a fried egg butty
    Ketchup on a chip butty
Brown sauce on a bacon butty
but a Sausage butty could have a combo of mayo & brown or mayo & ketchup depends on the sausage :D

    Mayonnaise & fried egg

It’s brown sauce or just salt & pepper on a fried egg sandwich.

Mayo on butties is the work of the devil.

Are fish fingers permissible in a buttie? Fish finger sarnie doesn't sound right.

Fish fingers & a smear of tartare sauce.
  • Once you get to such delicacies as Egg, Bacon and Sausage or Black Pudding (plus ketchup, HP, chilli and English Mustard - and maybe onions) in a lump of French stick, you're then eating a Roadkill.

Of course, if your surname happens to be Lister or Rimmer, you can have a triple fried egg butty with chilli sauce and chutney. :D

Whoa! Bob, you take egg butties to work? In an open plan office or do you sit on your own??
I had to stop my mum taking egg butties on a long train journey, I just couldn't let her travelling companions be subjected to that.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
