I downloaded Whatsapp a good while ago, years ago. I'm pretty sure you used to have to pay for it before it became a free app and i can't remember if i ended up paying for it back then since it's been that long.
Today i get a message from Whatsapp saying
And they provide something to click on.
Question is whether that's a scam or not. If not then why am i having to pay for it? Like i said i've had Whatsapp for years now and i may have even paid for it when i first got it.

Seems like you got a message from the past....They haven't charged since Jan 2016.
Don't click on anything, whatever it says.
Uninstall the app and install a new updated version. That should cure it.
Back up your messages first if you want to keep them.
There was a hoax message doing the rounds a while back, saying they were recommencing charging or something, but, that doesn't sound like what you got.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I got the same message a couple of months back. I ignored it as I suspected it was spam - and I can confirm that my WhatsApp is still working fine.0
