When am i unemployed?

Currently going through consultancy period which is coming to an end on Thursday. Company have found no other work for me so far. If this is the same on Thursday then they will make me redundant. They will give me 5 weeks notice but told me I will be unemployed from that day on and the five weeks will be paid as compensation. In another words they are letting me go on that day, no need to go back to work and they will pay for the 5 weeks.
Need to clarify this with the employer on the day. If that is the case can I claim JSA on Friday or wait after 5 weeks?

Yes, you claim right away.
Don't be like me, and leave it for a week or so (because I was busy updating my CV etc). The jobcentre wouldn't backdate the claim.0 -
