O/S Daily Sunday 5th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, drying up underfoot after yesterday's rain that had started sometime in the early hours and continued right into the afternoon. Temperature has dropped again.
DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas of the day, DH slightly improved but still has the hacking cough that he just can't seem to shift, I've suggested a trip to the Dr, but he won't go, so we'll just continue with the cough meds, it's his choice.
Dinner last night wash chicken in sauce with rice for the menfolk, and I fancied a veg curry which I made and the menfolk then decided they liked the look of mine so had a spoonful of that too, I did make a big pan full so I'd be cooking once eating twice, and hopefully some for the freezer - but there's only enough left for 1 more portion - which I hope will be mine for another meal.
Lunch today will be roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, peas, broc, yorkshires and gravy. I'll get the pack ups organised whilst the lunch is cooking.
Today will be another quiet day, I worked yesterday morning, and so once I've prepped and cooked the lunch I'll spend the afternoon chilling either on here or watching tv/reading.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It's cold out this morning but the central heating has just come on for an hour and the stove is still warm, I'll top it up when I get out of bed.
We'll be moving on today as we are on a 48 hour mooring and we won't exceed our time.
Roast chicken tonight, so I'll use the oven, most days I try to cook on the stove as it's lit anyway.
Jenny, you mentioned servicing your own engine, that's what we want to do but we have a Volkswagen engine and no manual for it so we got RCR to look at it first.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Brr it feels much cooler this morning but at least it's fine.
Yesterday kept fine so no wet and soggy bonfires to try and light. I am sure there were more fireworks than ever going off last night. Some really were spectacular - we only watched them from the window!
Nice to hear from you JACKIE and hope DD soon perks up. I was in the same boat as you a couple of years ago when DD had the bunions on BOTH feet done at the same time. Big rockers on both feet and no walking or driving to be done. We were frazzled wrecks up and down to her house cleaning, cooking, running the girls back and forth to school etc every day!
Lunch will be the beef casserole I left in the sc overnight. It smelled lovely when I got up this morning. I shall pop some dumplings in later and we'll have it with some creamy mash and garden peas. There's a bit of the chicken left that I did in a mushroom sauce last night so that will be tonight's meal with any leftover mash.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all those wanting them. JACKIE I hope they manage to control poor Frank's pain and make him more comfortable. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
It looks lovely outside though I’m sure it’s cold. Yesterday was another day of rain and wind.
Whilst I did some work ex OH took himself off and drove to Fort William for a while. I managed to complete half of my urgent marking in between doing non-urgent but ‘necessary’ chores! The sausage and pasta worked well.
I lit the stove and we watched SCD. No fireworks or bonfire as the weather was so bad, no joy in a soggy fireworks. I found that Echo / Dot has firework sounds so I played that twice over and pretended we were out.
Ex will leave today at some point, early in the day I hope and I’ll get stuck into my own stuff. I can’t go into the office tomorrow as planned as the TV installation man is coming back to fiddle with my Freesat cables which need attention.
It was lovely to see Jackie posting again. Please take care of yourself too.
Happy Sunday to all.0 -
Morning everyone
Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
Dumpling I’m glad that Becky got a bed quickly, waiting would have probably been very stressful and a strain on all of you. It’s good that you can go with her and settle her in. Hopefully she will get the help that she needs. xx
JackieO I hope that your daughter is soon feeling better and that Frank has a pan free and peaceful passing. Don’t forget to take care and look after yourself as well. xx
Well I did manage to find the energy to catch up on most of the housework. The bathroom still needs a good clean but I will leave that until tomorrow as I’m being taken out for lunch today. I’m really looking forward to this, I need some good company and a catch up with everyone.
It was such a wet day yesterday that I gave up any idea of doing any washing, but it will wait. We are definitely into needing to dry it indoors now.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing0 -
Morning :hello:
My dentist owns four practices, the Gloucester one is the only one that does NHS, the others are private only. He decided to base himself in his new Tetbury practice, I could stay where I was and be transferred to another dentist's list, or follow him to Tetbury. I was too scared to see anyone else, he's so patient and gentle, so I followed him, even though it's a bit of a journey compared to what I'm used to here. And it's private prices *grumble* lol. But it's a great drive, mostly quiet country roads. The mist was hanging over the fields and it looked fab. I've been to Tetbury a few times before but never had a proper look around – it's lovely and I've found a house I want to buy, just need a lottery win to afford itAnyway dentist said I could have all teeth sorted at once or half at a time. I chose half, I can't cope with all of them at once. I had a mouth full of playdough for the mould, lol, and it'll be ready in a week. I can only get there on fridays so couldn't get an appointment til the 24th. Reprieve
It actually works out well, a new plate will take weeks to get used to (if the last one was anything to go by) and there's a Christmas meal at the beginning of december that I've been trying to get out of, and I now have a good reason, lol.
Scampi's fine with fireworks, apart from the noise from one house last night. Someone was setting off proper display fireworks, they were massive, drowned out the sound on the telly and were so bright they lit up the wall around the closed curtains. I was RAGING (along with every dog around here!) but couldn't work out where they were coming from. Just as well, I think I'd have been arrested for assault if I'd found them, lol. My neighbour took her dog out in the car and came back a couple of hours later, she went to her sister's house. Police went past my house and round the corner, hopefully they got into trouble.
I've been crocheting all sorts of things for the past few days, some good and some not so goodI've written the patterns down for the decent ones but everything has been unravelled and will be done again, I want to simplify things and I tend to over-complicate then get frustrated, lol. I've added a few things to my weekly to-do list now that I've got more energy. So today I'm going to sit and re-jig my weekly planner – I want my days to be full and busy.

Morning everyone
Tru - can I be nosy and ask about your denture work. I have partial dentures, I had new ones made in the summer and decided to keep my 7 remaining teeth. However yesterday the back of one of my top teeth fell out leaving a big hole. So decision is made...have them all taken out! I have a dread of having no teeth whatsoever and the dentures not staying in properly. Are you in the same situation?
Nice bright morning and will have to get up and go and sit with my dad soon. He hasn't been well this week and is having mini strokes in his sleep almost every night and his hallucinations ( he has dementia) are getting a lot more frequent. Sometimes he sees family members and has a nice chat but other times they are frightening....strange little people or people without heads....these ones obviously really frighten him.
Lots of very loud fireworks last night....both cats were terrified, only one particularly. I locked the cat flap so they couldn't escape and they both spent the evening under beds.0 -
Beautiful day in Yorkshire today.
We went over the border yesterday, took a train from Bentham to Wennington in the Forest of Bowland and walked back. We had a lovely lunch in a pub at Wennington and while we were there a hunting party turned up. They were all dressed in tweed plus fours and talking about their Bentleys and Mercs, how the other half lives.
DH is installing a new outside light and we're pondering on the quote we have for a new roof (or rather taking off the slate we have and replacing it using copper nails rather than the rusty ones that are starting to break). I think we will have to bite the bullet although the amount we budgeted for it isn't enough.
DD wasn't very well yesterday so I hope she's ok. She's been struggling with anxiety for a while, much of it job-related I think but she has a lurgy as well now. They're off to Glasgow midweek for her brother-in-law's 21st so I hope she'll have a good break. We'll be having Ziggypup while they're away so I'm looking forward to that.0 -
Morning everyone,
Cold but bright and sunny here. I was at the yard by 7am and Lulu was out by 10 past, she spends so many hours in her stables just want her to get as much fresh air and grass! as possible.
We are now munching on bacon butties and am enjoying my coffee of the day, soon I will catch up on the Archers and then pop out for a few bits, I am low on cotton wool and deodorant plus I want to take a picnic lunch on the train tomorrow.
We have Catalan chicken for lunch, think DOH's football team are on the tv so no doubt that will be on.
Thoughts are with JackieO, Dumpling and all those with cares and worries, please take care of yourselves.
Right, the dogs are mithering for their weekly rasher of bacon, have a good day folks x0 -
Morning
Reporting from Edinburgh today
Jack Black seminar was pretty disappointing yesterday I afraid his ability to motivate has turned into an arrogance which was too much.
The venue was lovely though....the Lighthouse in Glasgow. The weather was gorgeous blue sky and sunny all day (thanks specks)
Came back to Edinburgh with my mate and we had a huge feast of a Chinese takeaway and a couple of bottles of wine:beer:
Weather is gorgeous again here today plan is a lazy morning then into the city for a late lunch then train home. Been a lovely break away despite Jack.
Sunday brunch now with my chef crush Simon rimmer always makes me hungry watching this so will enjoy lunch today for sure. Won't be home till late so won't bother with anything big just maybe some sneaky Scooby snacks for the train
Have a great day all0 -
Morning all
Nice bright day here wm is on the go and I have another two loads waiting to go in after.
Got a chap coming round this morning to price up bricking up an old doorway in the kitchen, we never use the door as its boarded up with the fridge in front of it, so we are going to brick it up before putting the new kitchen in, hopefully it wont be too expensive.
Managed to get a lot more xmas shpping done yesterday, so nearly there now, we had a lovely tapas lunch out with a glass or two of bubblywhich helped the afternoons shopping no end !
OH and I need to go and do a big shop today we are out of practically everything ! will go to Aldi but will get the fruit and veg and dog food in sainbugs as Aldi's fruit and veg does not last long before spoiling.
Tired mum thanks for the suggestion, we have made Evie a 'bunker' on the sofa consisting of four cushions and a blanket, it is closed off on all but one little bit so she can still see us, we also bought some pooch and mutt calming biscuits as recommended by a friend (we got them in pets at home) they are a natural treat which really calm the dog down and they were brilliant ! what a difference they made, I would recommend then to anyone with a nervous dog.
Right need to get on have good days all xx0
