Trying to decide if I am doing the right thing....

Hello all
I am a public sector worker and I have really long service. A few years ago (about 6 I think) I accepted a secondment which is a much higher grade. Almost as soon as I accepted it, my substantive role was moved to a long distance away which would have made it not suitable alternative employment. However, I was in the seconded role so I have stayed there. It's a role which is renewed each year and is in fact an elected position.
This year I have decided not to continue with the role. This would mean redundancy if I am not elected. As I am over 55 I would also get my pension.
I would be made redundant on the higher salary as it would be the salary I was earning on the day I leave. All in all it seems like I am making a good decision - why would I stay if I can get redundancy and a pension? But because I have such long service I am nervous about leaving work. I would plan to get a part time job.
Am I doing the right thing and if so why am I fretting?

Redundancy is potentially a one off chance, cashing in the year service makes a lot of sense.
The pension depends if they are not reducing it for taking it early.
if they are making up the years then even better.

Many people would be glad to be in your shoes. If it's happening do not fret. Take time to evaluate your new life. Think about all the things you want/ need to do but have never had the time. Get out walking and visit places. If you want to try part time work then take some time out to think what you could do.Mortgage free
