On my Android phone, I just got spanner symbol in my notification bar and it's from Google prompting me to update my phone number.
Has anyone else got this? Just wondered if it was genuine or something dodgy that will cause malware if i click on it.
It doesn't let me swipe it away.

Yes, received it and ignored it. Didn't swipe but used "back key" at bottom right of phone.0

If you tap on it you are just taken to login for your account to update the permissions on the use of your number. No biggie really.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I just got this on my new android phone - it happened after the phone updated to the latest software once I'd been using it for a day or two.0

Its not unusual and does not need an update to bring it on .0

I also had this yesterday. I can't recall exactly what the message said, but I recall there were two initial options... one was a large button which encouraged you to blindly agree to whatever Google was proposing (in my opinion it wasn't at all clear from the info presented at this point), and there was a 'more' option. I clicked on 'more' and it then presented three options. One was basically you granting permission for Google to use your phone number for marketing purposes (100% no way!), and another option was to keep your account status quo (in other words, don't allow them permission). I can't recall the third option. My advice would be to not click on the tempting innocuous button at the start of the process, but to click on 'more' and deny Google from having even more rights to your data and access to you

I did exactly the same as SouthUKMan.
Don't blindly click OK.
Basically the 3 options were,
1.Google does what it wants with your number.
2.Maintain status quo, i.e. number is only used for recovery. My choice.:)
3.Somewhere in between.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Got it on Friday. Number was correct, got a text code from Google sent to my phone as I have two factor authentication turned on, clicked Verify, job done. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
