Swap bath for shower

Hi There

Do you have to tank the floor when removing a bath and replacing it
with a walk in shower with tray and door.

Thanks

We recently had our bathroom refitted and had a shower tray and screen fitted where the old bath used to be. The floor did not need to be tanked.

You would need to have the floor tanked if you wanted a wet room.

I agree with Debran. You need floor tanking only for wet rooms, more information at https://www.diywetroom.com/guides/wetroom-tanking-and-tiling

Make sure you choose your showers carefully. We recently had a new corner shower installed. We went for Mira Thermostatic shower and it's great!
  • Plus 1 with the other replies, we removed the bath and had a large corner shower fitted with tray, our curved doors seal when closed so no splashing on the floor, just need a bath mat to stand on when you exit
  • Ditto here. Our attic bathroom (really only used by guests) had a bath with a shower over when we moved in. It was quite cramped, and we decided that we would rather make it a decent sized shower room than a pokey bathroom. No tanking required.

    Thanks for the replies,

So no tanking needed, that's good to know, looking forward to having a nice new bathroom.

I'm in the process of doing the very same thing. Neither the builder nor his plumber have used the word 'tank'; if they had I would have had to have asked what it meant.

Just bath out (cast iron, sledge hammer job sadly) shower in.

I'm newly familiar with the term 'tank' as having mortar, tank, mortar, tank, plaster - layered to repair a damp hall wall.

Also, have a 'shower-room' rather than a 'bathroom', like others above set in the corner.
The shower is fed by the combi boiler, and it's a triple outlet panel shower. That is - star overhead, hand wand, and three central spray jets.
