£5 and from China, it's probably a fake one.0

https://www.7dayshop.com/ are a cheap but reputable place to get memory cards. Just remember that UK sellers on Ebay could be selling the same stuff as the ones selling direct from China.0

I always use a small free utility called H2testw to test any new SD or microSD cards or USB memory sticks that I get - even if they have come from a reputable seller. It only takes a few minutes to run, and gives me reasonable confidence that the memory is working correctly and has the correct capacity before I entrust any of my data to it.

This is the only way. I have taken a punt on many cheap Chinese USB sticks and cards over the years, some have been good, some not, but never lost an Aliexpress dispute after uploading the H2testW report to the case, they know they have been caught out then and throw the towel in.
Sadly people often leave good feedback for sellers before reaching the real limit of the fake card and finding its fake but then its too late so you can't go on seller feedback scores at all
Also agree about 7dayshop, they are in the channel islands so some sort of tax advantage but ship quickly and only good cards.
Also vast numbers of fake ones on Amazon, but OK if you buy one actually from Amazon as they will be sourced from the manufacturer.0 -

I think the CI VAT loophole has been closed. VAT is now payable with no exemption for low value items. How do 7dayshop deal with this?
No I think your right, probably did a big turnover in memory. I bet they still benefit from a long standing relationship with bulk suppliers so can get good prices, even without tax benefits. I have used them many times OK.0 -
The seller requested photos of the memory card, so I sent those. Then he/she gave me a refund without demanding that I return it.
Thanks for the replies. The information about 7dayshop and H2testW is really useful. All this fuss for £5? Destroy the card and buy a decent quality one - don't waste your life agonising over trivia.0
