O/S Daily Saturday 4th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH still in bed, he had the lurgy that's doing the rounds 4 weeks ago, and did seem to recover but couldn't get rid of the cough, yesterday afternoon came back with the awful headache and temperature, so he did manage to eat his dinner but went to bed quite early, saying he couldn't get warm although his skin felt quite hot, he has slept most of the night but been a bit restless, but does now seem to have settled and I just checked on him and he mumbled something about being comfortable, so hope that's going in the right direction. Loads of people here have varying lurgy's that are doing the rounds - one of his colleagues (we think this is where DH got the lurgy from) finished up yesterday going to hospital for tests as he's had it a lot longer than DH and is really poorly, from what DH says, I wouldn't be surprised if his colleague hasn't got pneumonia - keeping an eye on DH for that reason.
In other news yesterday I received a text from my boss asking if I could work this morning as 1 of my colleagues went off sick and Tuesday and is still off, so I'm up, showered, had brekkie and will be going into work this morning. Both boys still in their pits, DS1 went out last night, and I didn't hear him come in but apparently it was approx 3am, so he'll have a lie in no doubt. DS2 will catch a lift with me and go to the gym I imagine.
Wasn't overly productive again yesterday - need to get myself into gear, although I did get the ironing done, washing all done so basket was empty, but it won't be this morning, menfolk will need their work gear washing, jobs on pc done, some bills paid and quick run round with the hoover.
We were going to visit DH's grandad this afternoon as everyone was well enough, now we won't be going, so I'll have to ring him once I get home from work just to have a chat. We'll have a very quiet weekend, and hope DH makes some improvement.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone
Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
Thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes yesterday, you are all such a good friendly bunch it’s nice to be part of this thread.
Dumpling I hope that things went well with the people who visited Becky yesterday. Special hugs to you all.
Today I have every intention of getting some housework done. I think I have had good intentions almost every day this week, but haven’t got around to doing much and it is starting to show now.
I have got some fish out of the freezer for dinner tonight. I thought I would just do that with some mash and veg, a nice quick easy dinner not involving too much effort.
The care meeting yesterday went as both my GP and I thought it would, not very well. One of the services are not going to be involved anymore, other than giving advice to the CMHT, my nurse has resigned and I won’t be getting a replacement, the consultant will continue to see me for medication issues and I will get six weeks of CBT, so all in all not good. I think underfunding is a big issue in our local services. They have said that I can ask for another meeting to review this when I see how things are going for me. I do feel disappointed though.
On a positive note, I’ve been invited out to a local restaurant for lunch tomorrow with some good friends, and I’m sure that I will enjoy that and have a good time.
I can hear the kettle calling, so have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc.
It's absolutely chucking it down here and is forecasted for most of the day, up early with a cuppa but will be off to the yard soon to feed Lulu her breakfast and put her out, she will want a rug on for sure
We are meeting up with DSS's later for brunch, the youngest is bringing his gf to meet us, first time he has done this so must be serious!
Other than that and more horsey stuff not loads planned for today, pizza and winter slaw for supper so nice and easy.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope OH soon starts to pick up. That strain of lurgy is rife in these parts too. DD can't shake hers off, it's dragged on for weeks.
A day of catch up on what the power cut left undone for me! I want to pop in town first though for one or two bits and also re-stock on birthday cards. Birthdays seem to come in batches and five cards are needed in the next two weeks.
I never got my red pepper soup made yesterday either. By the time the power was back on I cba starting it. Now earmarked for this afternoon. Along with the ironing which had the same fate.
I must remember to get some braising steak out to defrost as I want to leave a beef casserole cooking overnight in the sc for lunch tomorrow. It's ages since we had one and I have a right fancy for some with some big fluffy dumplings.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all those wanting them. So many of us are having problems of one sort or another just now and I am sending good wishes to each and every one of you. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Been up for hours so will be back to bed in a little while to catch up on some sleep. Steve had a nice birthday and we all shared a chinese takeaway for dinner. We actually all sat at the table and chatted too which made a nice change.
Becky will be going into hospital on Monday so we are spending the weekend getting her clothes washed and packed. She can take a few personal items so I have just ordered a few books as a bit of light reading for her as she isn't allowed to take her laptop and her phone will be restricted to a couple of hours in the evenings.
Thank you everyone for caring and sharing such personal stories. I will miss her like crazy but I am hopeful this will really help her and it will give us all some respite. I am allowed to go with her and make sure she is settled in.
Holly, I am sorry that your meeting did not go as well as you hoped xx
Right I am off to bed for hopefully a bit more sleep. Talk to you all later xx0 -
Morning all, I was woken by the rain! It hasn't stopped since and looks set for the day so I won't do any washing.
Thank you for the thread nmlc and Hollyharvey, sorry that your meeting was not very productive. Dumpling, will you be able to order books to be sent gp Becky at intervals?
I tidied with a vengeance yesterday but still have some to do. Not yet though, for now I am having cups of tea and furtling about. I am also trying quite hard not to be lured by the horrible ironing but I will have to do some at some point today, otherwise I'll have to wear my pjs to work. I've cleverly got white candle wax all down a black top, fortunately at least I know how to get it out.
Hope people have a good day and also that the rain stops soonish.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning
Can't see the weather here in Glasgow yet as my view from the hotel room is a roof and some guttering
Had a lovely night out to carllucios last night food was lush. If you know the place it has a big shop at the front selling lots of goodies. Whilst we were there thou we saw 2 different people walk in bold as brass and steal stuff. We did tell the staff but they seemed non plussed
Seminar today then I'm heading to Edinburgh to see a friend.
Best move my !!! and get dressed
Have a great day all xx0 -
Good morning all
Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
Good day yesterday, nothing broken, nothing went wrong.
Housework and laundry all up to date so today will be spent trying to sort out gas and electric, both fixed rate deals coming to an end soon.
Hugs to all those who want or need one
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning All
Chilly start here, hoping it cheers up later as I have a white load to do. DW on, bins emptied and the duster and hoover were thrown about last night.
I have a sewing lesson this morning, I need to know how to put in a zip! Also need to do some shopping, will go locally.
Hope Becky gets the help she needs dumpling, a difficult time for you all.
Sorry things weren't better for you Holly, enjoy your meal tomorrow.
Visitors arriving early evening so off to clean the bathrooms! Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Last night ex brought back a Chinese takeaway which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don’t usually have rice or chips but he still ate his faster than I ate mine. Think it’s called ‘wolfing’. A couple of glasses of wine went down well.
This morning I have to go over to a friends house to hand in some stuff, then I plan another greasy spoon for brekkie. Such a treat, it’s something I wouldn’t do on my own. Then I’ll be marking again.
Ex will probably want to go to the local community bonfire whilst I’ll want to stay indoors and watch SCD!
Dumpling - great news for Becky, you’re all being so brave and forward thinking. The time will pass soon enough.
HH - hope you get better support soon.
Now, where’s Jackie? I’m assuming things aren’t too good in her world, so thoughts and good vibes to her.
DM got her Blue Badge yesterday so she’s going to use it at the supermarket.
I may have to get up now and head to the shower. Happy Saturday to everyone.0 -
Morning all
Wet and miserable day here so no washing on the go yet will see if it brightens up later on.
Just having a cuppa and will have some toast and marmite ( my Saturday treat I don't eat bread often during the week)
DD and I are off to Brighton today I want to get some ideas for both her Birthday and xmas presents, or buy them if possible. We will have a wander through the lanes and find somewhere really nice for lunch with a big glass of wine .
Dinner tonight is yet to be christened might have to buy something when we are out.
Evie was terrified of the fireworks last night, she was never frightened till last year when OH was over the field with her one night and some oik let one off right next to her and she shot off, she was missing for four hours with us all out searching in the rain till she eventually found her way home, any way since then she has been really scared and its the local fireworks tonight and tomorrow so we need to get some measures in place.
Right better get on, have good days all xx
Dumpling hope Becky gets the help she needs xx
Specky What a life changing event that must have been for you all, sending you a little hug xx0
