Very depressing programme. I wondered why Acapulco is never mentioned these days as a holiday destination. Now I know why.

Depressing but not very surprising. After a stay in Tulum last year (just down the coast from Cancun) I went to Mexico city where I got chatting to someone who used to work in the tourist industry. He told me that the big drug cartels were pretty much in control there, and if things seemed safe for tourists it was only because it was in the the cartels' interests for tourists not to be scared away. But I'm sure it could easily get out of control.

Just got back from there, really glad I read none of this before or I expect I wouldn't have dared venturing out! I had a wonderful time, the locals were very pleasant, friendly and professional. Didn't feel unsafe at any time. Certainly left more anxious going to London some months ago!
