Upgrading external harddrive

I have a Verbatim 2TB desktop external hard drive that has bit the dust, I was just wondering if I would be able to buy a larger drive for the case to replace it, and if so what is the highest I could get away with.

The full specs for the drive is here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Verbatim-47514-Desktop-External-Drive/dp/B002JCSG7G

A lot of drives like those tend to max out at 2Tb as that's all the controllers on the board can handle. To see over that limit requires a new controller on the board inside the unit which would effectively require a new external anyway.

Last time i looked for an external drive it was about £3 dearer to have an external drive in a case over a standard bare drive of the same capacity.

Just buy a bigger external drive and sell the old one if its no longer needed.

You're sure it's the HDD that's broken, not the USB/SATA interface?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
