Land Rover Key Issues
I can't get one of my keys for my Land Rover to work, thankfully it's the spare key. Last time I successfully used it a message came up on my dash saying the battery was running low in the key fob. I have replaced the battery with the correct battery type and it didn't work. I then tried replacing the battery with another new battery of the correct type and it still won't work. I have now tried 3 different batteries from 3 different packs and none of the work so the problem must be with the key....unless the problem is actually me.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so how did you resolve it? I could buy a brand new key fob but will cost £££££ so I would like to avoid going down that route if possible.

If it is anything like a Ford key you may have to re-connect/Re-sync the key to the car after the battery is changed.
Try Google or your handbook for the methodology.0 -
As Tinks74 says, there's a magic sequence you have to go through after changing the battery in order to re-synchronise it with the car.
In my case, I had to leave the car unlocked (using the other key), swap the battery, then keep pressing buttons on the remote until the car recognised it again. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

That takes me back to Rovers...
If the key code was 1234 you had to put the key in the lock and turn it left once, right twice etc...

Thanks for the suggestions. Apparently just changing the battery of an existing key fob shouldn't require resynchronising but if you do have to resynchronise then you should operate either button of the handset at least five times in quick succession (in close proximity to the vehicle) which I have done but to no avail. This might be one for the garage, fingers crossed it doesn't involve having to buy a new key.
I found the following instructions for replacing the batter on LandyZone although I apparently could have found them by RTFM.
1. Carefully prise the handset apart, start from the keyring end using a small coin or screwdriver. Avoid damaging the seal between the two halves of the case and DO NOT allow dirt or moisture to get inside the handset.
2. Slide the battery out of its clip, taking care to avoid touching the circuit board or the contact surfaces of the clip.
3. Press and hold each button in turn for at least five seconds (this will drain any residual power from the handset).
4. Fit the new battery, ensuring that correct polarity is maintained. Finger marks will adversely affect battery life; if possible, avoid touching the flat surfaces of the battery and wipe them clean before fitting.
5. Press the two halves of the handset firmly together and ensure that both halves are fully joined to prevent dirt or moisture from entering the handset.
6. Resynchronise the handset.
The handset is now ready for use.
Handset resynchronisation
If the handset fails to lock or unlock the car, this may be because the coded signal transmitted by the handset, and the signal expected by the alarm control unit are no longer synchronised.
To resynchronise the handset, operate either button of the handset at least five times in quick succession (in close proximity to the vehicle).
The above info can be found in the Owners Handbook - both the paper version, and for free on-line in the Owner's section of TopiX.
As straight battery change should be simple and straightforward with the re-coding only being necessary if you have a 'strange' remote, being used for the first time.0
