Lambert Building Society Mortgage PPI

Hi All,

I took out a mortgage back in 2001 ish with LBS. The mortgage application was in just my name but my ex partners name was put on the documents in the branch when we signed the paperwork. Because he worked for as a care worker and it was through an agency, this was not classed as permanent employment. Fair enough. We took out PPI with the mortgage too and tried to make a claim around 2 years later as my partner loss their job with the care agency. Our claim was declined as they did not cover agency worker employees. Why was we paying for a joint PPI when it was not applicable to my partners employment? Is this mis-sold? The partner is now an EX but can I still put in a claim? Does the claim need to be joint as the main application was myself or can I just make a claim? Having their name on the mortgage, not the application, would the claim need to be in both names or just mine? When we split the mortgage was paid off in full, I left for the USA and my EX left for Australia but I am now back in the UK.

Any advise??

  • It sounds as if you actively bought it, rather than sold it. Is that right?

Did you check or ask re the policy coverage?

Any complaint will need to be in both names if you were both named on the mortgage.
  • I don't remember if we were sold PPI or were just told it was there to claim in the event of unemployment. I didn't feel I needed it as I had 6 months sick pay in my job and the mortgage was so low we had double the mortgage in value of the property. We bought our council flat so worse case in any event of not having any income, we could have sold the property and paid of the mortgage twice. We borrowed £49k and the flat was valued at £95k, right to buy discount. I remember it annoying me when trying to claim and they said it did not cover care agency workers.
