Shared ownership energy improvements

Bit of advice needed as I cannot get a straight answer anywhere.
I have a lovely little shared ownership house-built in the 1980s so no double glazing and as a bonus no central heating due to no gas on my street!
I want to look into making it more energy efficient (ie new windows, loft insulation etc etc) but it seems that schemes are only available for people on benefits.
The whole reason I have a shared ownership is because I could not get a full mortgage on my own. Surely these schemes should be available to people in my situation?
HELP! Any tips/experience or advice gratefully recieved.

You can get free loft insulation. It seems you may have posted without reading the site's info on this subject first:

You are in the same position as a house owner with regards to home improvements. There is no extra help for shared owners. So no matter how much you spend, when you come to sell on your home you will still only get your percentage share less selling costs. So be very careful how much work you want to put into it, it will only be worth it if you plan to stay there a long time. Shared ownership seemed like a good idea at the time but I do wonder if youre better off renting as there are no maintanance costs.0
