PPI Hsbc and debt

Hello folks,
I received a letter from HSBC stating that I may be entitled to ppi redress under new guidelines.
I filled out the form and returned it today. But I'm curios. I got myself in a lot of financial difficulty a few years ago due to broken back and being unable to work (self employed) I had outstanding debt which was sold on to MCS (I believe it's their collection agency??) and have a payment plan in place. IF I am due any money. Will it go to them first as it is in theory an outstanding debt or as it is sold off willnit come to me.
In honesty I'd likely use some to pay towards it (maybe do a full and final) but I'd at least like the choice... any idea?
Many thanks x
