Data protection, PPI bank saying PPi is in ex's name even though joint business a/c

Hello, i would really appreciate some advice please (sorry i've never done this before)
I've just found this site after using Claims Guys to reclaim my PPI. From the beginning I explained that my claim would be from a joint business account with my ex-husband. I didn't give his name to them. Last week i had an offer from the bank but was then quickly told by Claims guys that the bank had solely named my ex on the offer. I know that any loans or accounts were joint. They have looked into this and again, the bank has said that it was just my ex on the loans, the man from the Claims guys was baffled as if it was just in my Ex's name then they should not have been told of any details as this was a Data Protection issue but also why would any PPI have shown up unless my name was on it, as mine was the only name they were searching for. Also, i'm pretty certain that any loans were signed by both of us as it was coming out of a joint business account but could he have taken a loan out without getting my signature? Any help would be really appreciated, thank you

It sounds to me like the PPI was in his name only. This would explain why you and the claims company were able to access information about the account and why it is not a data protection issue. The company will have sought information about PPI on any of your accounts, not against your name. Note that claim companies have no special investigatory powers, everything they have done you could have done yourself alone and for free.
Only the Bank can explain further, so I suggest you contact them directly rather than through the claim company.
If the insurance is solely in your ex's name there will be nothing due to you even if it was mis-sold I'm afraid0 -
Thank you for your reply.....
Unfortunately i didn't realise that i could still do it myself, even if i didn't know the account numbers any longer
The man from Claims Guys said that he'd worked there for a long time and had never experienced this before, he's spoken to his manager, who will look into it further.
Are you saying that, should he had taken a loan out himself, even if it was out of a joint business account, i wouldn't be able to claim in any way? I'm still pretty certain he didn't though but i will try and phone the bank tomorrow.0 -
The man you speak to is a call centre operator for a claims firm. His expertise is therefore limited. The man from Claims Guys said that he'd worked there for a long time and had never experienced this before, he's spoken to his manager, who will look into it further.
No. I'm saying he may have chosen insurance that covered him alone. Are you saying that, should he had taken a loan out himself, even if it was out of a joint business account, i wouldn't be able to claim in any way?
I still think you (or the claims firm) may have misunderstood what the Bank have responded, that's why I suggested you contact the Bank for clarification.
On a positive note, at least you won't have to pay the Claims company.0
