Closed Bank Account

Hi, sorry if this is posted in the wrong section of the forum
This issue is regarding my father, i ordered a fridge freezer Sept 16, last year, after 11 month it developed a fault and could not be repaired, so my dad got granted with a full refund, simple enough i thought. On Dec16 last year, there was a transaction on the bank card my dad thought was suspicious, so he phoned the bank and they terminated the card then issued a new one, on the 2nd October 2017 the refund for the fridge was sent to the paypal account, but the problem is, the refund got sent to a card that got terminated Dec 2016, i have contacted the seller on Ebay, i have contacted paypal, i have contacted argos, and they all tell me its a problem with the bank, so my dad calls the bank and they tell him to contact paypal, then paypal tell my dad to contact his bank, I'm getting sick and tired with it, no one seems to know what to do, just passing me and my dad back and forward without any sort of resolution to this issue, my father is in his 70s, why is it so hard to just take my dads new bank card details and issue him with the full refund that paypal have issued on the account, so i see that paypal have issued the refund, but the bank say they have received nothing, could anyone please help me and my father, as we are now at a point were we have no other options left.
We would be very grateful of any help in resolving this problem.

Thank you very much

If the refund was via paypal, then it will either be in the paypal account as credit, or be attempted to be refunded back onto that card that was used to make the paypal payment.

If that card was indeed cancelled, then the refund would fail - paypal should be able to see this as a failed transaction.

What do YOU see on the paypal account?

Is the bank account closed or was that specific debit card (on the still open account) just cancelled?

2 Oct Argos on Ebay Refund +£179.99.

Hey, i think the mastercard account got closed and a new account and card got reissued to my father, i got told if it was only a new card with the same account, the money would of went in without any issues, so i am guessing its both, new card and account details.

Does the PayPal balance show the money there?

If so, withdraw the funds from there. PayPal requires a link to a bank account via Direct Debit as well as a credit card to withdraw funds so that ability to do that should still be there.

  • Hey my paypal balance is zero, also the same as the wallet.

    GBP available
    £0.00
    Total in GBP
    £0.00
  • You mention bank account but you also mention Mastercard.

Was the refund processed to a Current Account or a Credit Card?
  • It was refunded to a Mastercard that i no longer have access to.

A refund made to a card that was cancelled/replaced would either bounce back or the bank have it.

Did the bank do a proper trace on the refund or just fob you off? I'd raise a complaint with them if you aren't satisfied with the outcome.
  • Everyone is passing the buck back and forward, saying its not there issue, Paypal said it should of bounced back within 30days, but it never did.

You need to get all the details of the transaction sent by paypal (date/time/value/references etc) and then phone the bank saying that you want a dead lock letter so you can make a complaint to the financial ombudsman.

They will probably want to go through the details again, which may miraculously uncover what happened, if not then take the dead lock letter to the financial ombudsman.

If the ultimate finding is that paypal is at fault, then you will need to send them the outcome and be prepared to take them to the small claims court.
