Passat 2.0 TDI, you'll definitely get one inside that budget and a great tow car.

DH doesn't want another VWAG vehicle after being stuck with an EA189 engine and fed all the lies from VW.

What's the road tax and fuel consumption like, as you stated those as important factors in your opening post?

Mpg official combined is sub 40
    Tax is £305.

    :(

Lol..........sounds like husband is like me. Has gone off piste and bought what he wanted, sod the costs you were factoring in. :)

We needed a decent 3.5 tonne tow car (not many about) and ended up with a Jeep Commander £500+ VED 25mpg (16mpg when towing). The Panda gets used an awful lot.

Think yourself lucky. My wife went out and bought a car she liked the look of and it is sub 30 mpg and over £500 tax.

It doesn't fit in the works car park either.

With the potential for an awful lots of bills also. More likely very few bills but they could make your eyes water.

Surprisingly, the Superb cost us £500 per month based on owning if for 3 years. This is high due to its depreciation, having bought it new. This is forming a large part of DH's reasoning.

Having now driven the Mercedes, nice as it is (It's the Elegance spec) I shall be sticking to driving my Mini.
