TP Link Powerline Adapter Query

I use 2 TP Link Powerline Adapters AV600.
They work well most of the time but for some reason I start to randomly loose my internet connection.
Turning one of them off & back on gets my connection back up straight away.
Bit of a nuisance more than anything.
Any idea what the problem might be ??

  • I did have some powerline adapters that had a power-saving mode, but once they went into it, seemed very reluctant to wake up again.

Do they have any LEDs on them ? Is there any indication that anything is amiss ?

Are they plugged directly into the socket or are they on an extension lead?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

All LEDS are as they should be.

    Direct into sockets.
  • You specify that you lose your internet connection, but of course that is an end-to-end connection. Have you tried just pinging the router. (That said, restarting a powerline adapater does seem to suggest that the problem is there.)

In my experience losing connectivity is normal for powerline adaptors - I have tried 3 different manufacturers in 2 different houses and with 2 different routers with no discernible difference. They appear to be very sensitive to noise on the mains. That is why I have gone over to wifi - and the adaptors are cheaper.

Are you using a microwave, kettle or similar?

Me too - I invested in a pair of Google WiFi adapters and this has been much more stable for me. I still use the Power Lines (my son uses them for his Xbox as it means less ping for him) but he regularly needs to switch them on and off to reset them.

I have 4 Trendnet TPL407 adapters around the house and they are forever losing connection, the one I tend to notice the most is the one connected to my laptop. For this reason I got a cheap external wifi adapter capable of 2.4 and 5ghz and binned the powerline for my computer.

I've had the same issue as the OP with the TP Link Adapters. Previously had Belkin Adapters that worked faultlessly for 6 years until they packed up - I've tried 3 other makes since, and haven't found any that work consistently. Currently using a Devolo pair that work more consistently than the TP Link ones, but I'll definitely look into the wifi adapters suggested by others.

We also have problems with frequent drop outs on the line, so I'm spending forever restarting adapters and routers before having to ring BT.
