Good Energy Billing Issues

I recently became the victim of Good Energy's billing issues - unbekown to me they did not collect my direct debit for over 6 months and now claim I owe then hundreds of pounds. What is more, they are much more expensive that the Uswitch comparison showed them to be when I decided to switch. So they have proposed that I am locked in as a customer for the next year paying double what I used to, and more for the arrears. They have offered to reduce the debt by £260 but I still don't know what to do because I haven't got the money to cover the outstanding balance saved, but I don't want to stay as their customer because it is vastly more expensive. Has anyone else had similar issues?

  • If they didn't collect your DD for 6 months, didn't you notice its absence on your bank statements or the extra money in your account?

Hi - welcome to the forum. In what way is Good Energy more expensive than the USwitch comparison? There are a number of reasons why this might be the case:

    1. The annual projected usage (in kWhs) used to calculate the annual cost was incorrect. This led to a low annual cost and therefore a low monthly DD payment.

    2. You are using more than the projected annual usage. Use more: pay more.

    3. Annual usage is being re-assessed on estimated meter readings; ie, the supplier is not getting a monthly actual meter reading from the customer.

FWiW, £260 off the debt to stay is better than any offer you will get from another supplier. Once the debt is re-paid - in days, weeks or months - you are free to switch.
