O/S Daily Thursday 2nd November 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, but was a cold night, not quite a frost though. Dry underfoot and last night we had the most beautiful sunset of loads shades of pink and orange. Forecast for today is cold but some sunshine. We'll see. Will put washing on the line if I think it's going to dry.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, peas and HM onion and pepper sauce for those that wanted some, sauce wasn't bad at all, just made it up as I went along. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost, so tonight we have HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy. Once I've made that the fridge will be nicely empty as it's shopping day tomorrow, I'll give the fridge a clean out later too, so it's ready for the new contents.

Yesterday work was again a "all" or nothing type of morning, but then went quiet just before I left at 1pm, I didn't work my extra hours as I had a dentist appointment that had been made ages ago and I'd been told the extra hours would have stopped by now. My dentist has just left so I got someone else (who I then found out is the owner of the dental practice) and she was excellent, but the new replacement dentist starts in February and my next appointment is in March, so we'll see how we go, but I've been assured by the owner and the Reception staff that if I'm not happy I can just transfer to another dentist within the practice.

I'm now on days' off, but have to go in for training this morning, so then I'll get going with all my other jobs, I'll go straight into town after training to visit the bank/building society and we need more bread and milk so will pick that up on the way home. Car needs petrol too. I'll keep going with the washing, drying and ironing and some housework.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Back to a clear sky this morning and much colder, yesterday was wet and miserable all day.

Washing on the pulley, no time to put the DW on, I'll do that when I get home. Sorted and cleaned DDs room last night so that's ready for my visitors. Wont take long to do the downstairs, may do that tonight.

Wizzed over to Ikea after work, I had bought a lamp but couldn't get the screwy thing off the electrical bit to thread it through, they couldn't do it either so I got my money back. Thankfully the traffic wasn't too bad.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels quite mild this morning so no heating on. There are never two days alike these days!

Flying visit from me. The three girls are to get ready for school, fed and watered and, once delivered, get ourselves presentable and leave for the journey to Leeds for Mr TA's Oncology appointment. Unlike last month, when we had to make the arduous journey by bus, we are back on the train today as no strikes this time thank goodness.

The girls are back again tonight after swimming for another sleepover and, being Thursday, it has to be a Bolognese Bake for tea! The Bolognese is simmering away as I speak and I will do the pasta and cheese sauce when we get back. Just hope we are not held up at the hospital. If we make good time I hope to have a quick foray into Leeds Fruit & Veg Market for a bit of bargain spotting on route back to the station.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all the poorly, worried or sad who want them. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Thinking of you Dumpling and JackieO and your families.
Glad you had a good holiday Specky.

Another one here who felt that something was missing from GBBO this year, I agree that it could be that adverts but it felt a bit flat at times.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday sweeping up the leaves and it looks a lot tidier now. I keep looking at the trees to see how many more are still to come down.

Dinner tonight will be a nice looking home cooked shepherd’s pie that a neighbour called round with last night for me. I’m really looking forward to that. I need to go out to the supermarket this morning so will get some veg to go with it. As I’ve got to walk past Waitrose I’ll call in there, they often have really good y/s veg prices early in the morning.

I can hear the kettle calling, so have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

I was woken early by terrible cramp so I'm just recovering before trying to get another hour's shuteye.

We're off to Yorkshire this afternoon for the weekend, I've not looked at the forecast so I hope it's going to be dry.

I've not seen any posts from Jackie so I hope that things aren't too bad with her. Dumpling, I hope the professionals can manage to help Becky and that you got out for a drive yesterday.

DS and DW have got a provisional moving date at last - the 17th. I'm glad for them but not for me, I'll miss being able to see them as often as we do.

Don't know what I have done but very thing in my home seems to be breaking or just not work.
Latest is the bathroom light and I can't open the car boot, I know they say things come in 3's, but I must be at 10 or more.

Beautiful bright start to the morning so going to do a bit of shopping, maybe get a coffee.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning all.

For a lovely change today is forecast to be sunny and dry! After the almost incessant rain of the past few days our rural roads have still got standing water, perhaps it can get away into the sea now.

My plans today are to tackle the next mass of marking. I’ll make time to get out for a walk in the bright but nippy sunshine.

I bought a YS pizza yesterday in case ex-OH turned up last night, he didn’t so it needs used. There’s already too many pizzas in the big freezer as I don’t tend to eat them. In fact I have no idea why I bought this one, just part of my bad week I think.

As for GBBO - I found that there wasn’t enough judging time, everything was cut short in favour of too much time showing facial expressions and making stuff. And the adverts really interrupted the flow even though I recorded and whizzed through the breaks. The adverts in the final were especially annoying, seems like they were mini-programmes.

My thoughts are with those of our pals having tough times.

    Happy Thursday.

    Morning everyone,

Another one here SilverOldie who seems to have things going wrong at the moment, it's the toaster now and it tripped the fuse when it went. It seems to me that appliances are deliberately built with a finite lifespan these days :(
Off to do some food shopping soon, we don't need loads as we are off to Edinburgh on Monday for a few days but don't quite have enough fresh stuff to last until then so it's just bread, milk and f&v really. Although I do need to pick up some of the dogs food because we always take their own meals to the kennels, saves a funny tummy!

Thoughts are with all going through tough times at the moment x

Have a good day folks x
