This weeks edition of Moneybox on Radio 4 has been discussing the Equifax data breach. No mention of waiving rights though.

On a related issue does anyone know how to contact Equifax by a message or Email to discuss security issues that their scans have picked up? If I keep getting directed to useless FAQs, I know they have a busy telephone line as well.
  • It's good to see that this thread has gone quiet and no horror stories (to date) have been reported.

I wonder if 'everyone' involved has now been notified!

It seems that 'no news is good news' :)

The problem is, though, that nobody knows how widely the stolen information has been spread, how many people have access to it, and when it will be used.

If/when it is used to open an account in your name, or create a false identity, it's going to be very difficult to be sure how it happened, with what information, and where that information came from.

Once the genie's out of the bottle, which it now is, it's impossible to put it back in again.
  • I think you absolutely right. However, at this point in time, the thread is very quiet and 'hopefully' will remain so :)

Sadly, the quiet period may be about to end.

I cannot access my free Equifax Protect account this morning. Has anyone else had any problems today?

Same here. They've probably been hacked again.

Oh dear, I hope not. I would like to think that they have instigated extra security and are erring on the side of caution and extra-vigilance.

However, based on their track record for keeping the public informed, I suspect that they are carrying out routine maintenance and didn't think to tell us.

Just tried again and there is now a message from Equifax saying that the website is currently down for maintenance.

Interestingly they do not say "Planned Maintenance". Why am I so suspicious of this company?
