I dont think thats true. If you have a TV at home but no aerial you dont afaik need to pay a TV licence. You can use it for watching DVDs and playing games.

you're right, it's a very common misconception that owning the equipment automatically means you need a licence

I did exactly that for a few years (watched DVDs & played games) I informed the TVLA, they said that was fine & they'd send someone round to check, but never did

so I can't see how you'd need a licence for a laptop if you're not actually using it to receive broadcasts

EDIT ... just noticed your links to other discussions on the subject, so you know your stuff already ;)

Phoned PC World. They cant tell me if my store has any as its a clearance laptop and they cant put me through to the store. Thats good customer service for ya!

Will just have to go but there are 3 possibilities in my area! Why cant you phone the store direct??? :(

I have just been into the Leeds city centre store. No stock but they were able to check the local area. Hopefully if you visit the closest one they should be able to check the other two.

Apparently 2 available in Bolton for £800 (might be of use to someone).

Been to my local. None left but other stores do have them. They are priced £799 but was told if its last in stock (which most are) and is the ex-display model I should be able to make an offer for £599 and they would accept it.

Just went to one and they only had the display model. They would only reduce it to 750 - I said no thanks. It was slightly scratched! Just wouldnt budge on price... oh well. Probably shouldt anyway as cant really afford it! Im a bargain nut though! And at 599 this was a bargain. Same only your store did it for that.
