This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Thinking of you Dumpling and JackieO and you families.

I still can’t sleep. I only managed two hours last night, so no doubt I’ll be walking around feeling wring out all day. I think I am worrying about the big care meeting about me on Friday. I’ll be so glad when it’s over.

I finally managed to get some housework done yesterday. It just leaves the bigger jobs like polishing the tiles in the kitchen and bathroom and I really don’t have the energy or inclination to tackle them at the moment.

I really need to try and get outside and sweep up the piles of leaves that are building up out there at some point today as well.

Yesterday afternoon I caved in and turned the heating on, I was feeling really cold. It seems it bit warmer this morning. I’m glad that I’ve put the heating on the timer to come on first thing in the morning; I have got to have a warm bathroom before I even think about having a shower.

I can hear the kettle calling, so have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Absolutely pouring down out there this morning, another day when the children at school will be in all day, they are like caged lions!

Tidied and cleaned DS2s bedroom last night, no-one staying in there but it was getting to be a dumping ground. I'll do DDs tonight, I have visitors staying on Saturday night so they can have that room. It'll take me an age to clear up all the sewing stuff!

Watched the Bake Off, thought the best person won, anyone else think there was 'something' missing from the series?

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, dry underfoot but cooler again.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was pork loin steaks, new potatoes, peas, leeks, LO cauli/broc cheese, carrots, roast pots, mash, and a 2 slices of beef cut in half so everyone got a small piece each (divided into as equal as possible so we all got the same!) and gravy. All LO's eaten so nothing thrown away. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato and peas.

Yesterday work again was "all" or nothing, the emphasis being on the "all" for the morning, not so bad in the afternoon. I'm only working this morning as I have a dentist appointment this afternoon, I'll be glad to get it out of the way - hate the dentist.

I'll also need to speak to my boss as it appears there's been a mistake with my wages/hours/holiday entitlement that should have been amended when my working hours were slightly changed, I was led to believe that I wasn't losing out but I've just discovered I've been given slightly less hours although I've been working over that and I did question it and kept being told that it was me making a mistake, my worry is that they want to backdate the change to when it should have been done from, so will have to see what they say.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

High winds and pounding rain all night and I’ve woken up so hot, it’s 11 degrees outside. Mad weather

Only had my usual one young child at the door last night who announced straight away who he was. :rotfl: I’d bought a wee chocolate pumpkin for him. His mum brought me a book about gardening.

Yesterday my hairdresser was so late coming in that I rearranged my appointment for after teaching. My whole day was very annoying! Most things went wrong, just one of those days.

This morning I have my least favourite teaching session, I’ll be glad when it’s over in January. I’ve been worrying about it which doesn’t help!

I’m going to stay under the duvet for a few minutes more before facing my day.

Thoughts to those having tough times.

    Happy Wednesday.
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLYH. Sorry you are not sleeping well. Feels quite mild this morning which is most welcome. I had a restless night with this painful arm wakening me every time I moved. It's getting quite jading now.

Mr TA was in and out of his appointment re his hand in no time yesterday and has now been discharged. That leaves him under only 3 Consultants now with all his problems.

We carried on to Boundary Mills afterwards, as planned, and I got some good bargains. Lots of stocking fillers from the candle and accessories section for the ladies and after shaves and smellies for the menfolk. A gorgeous Radley purse for £30 (rrp £70) for DS's GF's birthday next week with a couple of RHS candle tins. Mr TA managed to wangle himself a pair of comfy shoes for every day wear and they weren't on my list! Nor was the Radley bag I succumbed to for myself! I needed a casual every day bag for shoving everything but the sink in and when I spotted this one reduced to £20 (rrp £110) I grabbed it. I spent more than I intended so some belt tightening is now on the cards!

Because of tomorrow's appt in Leeds the shopping day is being brought forward to today. Fortunately, because we seem to have been out more than in this last week, I don;t think we need much at all. Just a top up shop will do.

The 3 DGDs are here for tea and sleepover tonight but I have yet to christen tea. There are some spuds on the verge of sprouting so I will use those up I think and do sausage and mash.

Have a good day all and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Thinking of DUMPLING and JACKIE. Where's JUDI these days or have I missed her posting? Hope all is ok with her. Take care all xx

Yes CAMELOT I felt that too. It wasn't Mel and Sue's absence as I can take them or leave them so can only assume it was because there was no Mary Berry. Can't quite put my finger on what the "something missing" was!

Brrr seems very cold here this morning I must sort the heating out tonight so that it comes on for an hour or so in the morning.

Back to work for me today but a short week so not too bad, dinner tonight will either be meatballs or an omelette, the other one will be tomorrow night.

Did a bit more Xmas shopping yesterday ordered OH's so that's him out of the way, just dd's main present to think of now, hopefully get some inspiration on Saturday.

Right better get on have good days all xx

Thanks for the thread Holly, hugs to those in need especially Jackie and Dumpling.
Hubby has three days holiday, two of those will be spent babysitting the dgc.
His shift is being changed again, one of his colleagues is unwell so hubby is covering for him.
We are thinking of going away for the weekend, taking the boat to the nearest pub and mooring nearby for a few days.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning all

Thought I would post a bit earlier today.
    Hope everyone is well.
Middle is getting ready to go to school. I will drop Eldest at college mid morning.
Late morning, a lady is coming to cut Smalls hair. He hates it. His school made his a picture book to explain what will happen & we look at it before each hair cut. He will still have a meltdown though.
Today I will soak my fruit for the Xmas cake. I shall bake it on Friday.
My bedding is in the machine.
I'm trying to get more organised. It is t easy, especially with Small off for an extra week.
I am more organised with the food though. Cafe in my house for dinner. Eldest has beef stir fry, Middle with have something frozen & beige, Small is having spaghetti pesto. Me & DH will have pie, chips & peas. We eat later when he gets home.
Thinking of JackieO & Dumpling. Hope everyone else is well.

    Best Wishes

    X

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Brrr, it's freezing here this morning. The grandchildren arrived this morning to stay here before going to school and I didn't even know they were coming as Jemima had forgotten to ask me if that was ok. It isn't a problem though as I am not going out till lunchtime and it is always lovely to spend time with them. The girls have all left for school/college and Lilly has her English re-sit this morning so I have my fingers firmly crossed for her.

Halloween was very busy here as always, they went through bags and bags of sweets but there were certainly some very cute little monsters knocking at the door. The children were all very polite too which was lovely. The decorations have all been packed away ready to go into the attic as well.

Becky's care workers came yesterday and I was able to talk to them a bit about the difficulties we have been having. They are meeting Becky's psychiatrist today and will try to work out a plan for her care. The Assertive Outreach team are coming here at 4pm as well which Becky is very unhappy about but something needs to be done. We can't keep on like this as it is too much pressure on all of us.

My lovely cmht lady is hopefully coming today but she has been off sick so I hope rather selfishly that she is feeling better. I would like to go out for a drive just to get out of the house and blow some of the cobwebs away.

I am cooking goat curry for tea tonight much to the horror of the girls. I have never eaten goat before and my butcher had a special offer on so I bought some to try. I know it needs a long slow cook so I will prepare it in a minute and put it on.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
