PPI question

Hi, I recently used a third party to claim back some PPI for me from a long tome ago and was successful, however, I had a mortgage and loan connected to that mortgage from Abbey National, (now Santander). The company I used said it would be extremely difficult to claim back PPI from an Abbey nation mortgage due to the fact that Santander took them over and Abbey no longer exists, Is this True? I would have thought that if Santander took on Abbey National that surely they would have taken on their debts. Any advice welcome

If the seller no longer exists, then you surely have no one to complain to. Santander took on their debts - not historic mis selling by another company.
Remember - if a claims company isn't prepared to spend 50p on a stamp in return for half your money, there really isn't much hope0
