Android (Samsung Galaxy range) - backups

I have a Huawei P9 Lite that I've updated to Android 7 (Nougat). I got it 11 months ago for £199 and it works great for me. (3GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage - I added a 64GB micro SD card to increase the total storage and have most apps, as well as music etc., going to the SD card).
I always tend to use the Swype style keyboard rather than individual key presses.

My wife did something like that when she had her Android. I could never get to grips with it. I'm not really a technophobe as such but i just hate change. Drawing squiggles on my phone isn't something i can see myself accepting

I also hate predictive text where you type a few letters & then it suggests so you press that word. I prefer to just type out what i'm typing.
She'd talk about all these launchers and whatever other terms she used. Nova launcher is about the only one i can remember the name of.
When iTunes updated & it seemed like Apple were forcing you to now update apps over the air that kind of did it for me. I've never liked iTunes & this syncing malarkey anyway. I find it a very clunky way to operate. I'm sure those fluent in it will disagree but i'm not fluent. I can get about well enough but that's all i'd describe it as. I had to find myself the old version of iTunes, re-download & then found out my library was now ballsed up so had to sort that out. A bit annoying really.0
