Can NI credits be sanctioned?

Options
This seems like a straightforward question, but googling produces conflicting answers.

If one is signing on at the job centre for NI credits only (because the 6 months of contribution-based JSA has expired and no entitlement to income-based), can these NI credits be sanctioned/stopped if one is deemed to be making insufficient effort to find work?

Yes you can still be sanctioned.
  • Thanks for the, albeit conflicting, replies. It's amazingly hard to get a definitive answer to such a seemingly straightforward question.

You cannot be sanctioned when receiving NI credits. However, if you don't do as you're told DWP can simply end the claim.

There is loads of information on this on https://www.whatdotheyknow.com Too many to list separately.

  • Remember atm you will only need 35 years of NI cont for a full SRP, this of course could change in years to come

On ESA WRAG NI Credits you cannot be sanctioned (because there are no payments to sanction) for, for example, not going to the work program if you are on NI Credits only.... but this is because on ESA your claim cannot be closed for not complying with appointments (except medical assessment appointments).

On JSA NI Credits you cannot be sanctioned (because there is no payment to sanction), but you can have your JSA claim closed for non compliance.

However, unless things have changed they have to be complete years (possibly with 2 or 3 misses allowed),6months of qualifying ,2 months not, then 6 qualifying can't be combined to make one complete year.
