Help an idiot (me) with Britannia Parking.

Afternoon All,
I had a letter from Britania Parking stating:
"Contravention: Failed to make a valid payment".
Followed by this paragraph:
"The signage displayed at the entrace to and through the carf park, states that the car park is private land operated by Britannia Parking (the creditor). Parking conditions apply or a Parking Charge will be incurrred, along with other terms and conditions of thhe car park by which those who park in the car park agree to be bound.
By contravening the terms and conditions set out on the signage the Parking Charge is now payable."
From the above I took it they were implying I hadn't bought a ticket. I most certainly had bought a ticket and was quite angry by this letter.
I appealed online stating that I had bought a ticket and advised that they had problems with their machine (which they did). The machine errored a few times upon entering the reg number, it also would not take the "old" (still valid at the time of parking) pound coins. We had a 'polava' trying to swap coins with strangers (which others did too).
I then got this responce today:
"The Parking Charge Notice was issued to your vehicle because your pay and display ticket had expired.
Please be aware that there are different tariffs for Saturdays than the rest of the week. Our system shows a payment assigned to this vehicle of £2. The Saturday tariffs are as follows; Up to 2 hours -
£1.60, Up to 3 hours - £2.20. We are members of the British Parking Association (BPA) and we follow their Approved Operator
Scheme, Code of Practice at all times. Section 13 – Grace Periods, details that once the parking contract has ended (ticket has expired), we must give the driver a reasonable period of time to leave
the car park. We have a 10 minute grace period at this car park. If the driver has not purchased another ticket or left
the car park by the time the 10 minute grace period has been reached, a Parking Charge Notice will be issued, for breaching the terms and conditions of the car park."
Now the letter states entry 11:35:13 exit 14:00:41. The above contradicts the original letter (that or they really need to work on their wording). I'll be honest I can't remember how much we put in but they are saying £2. I also can't remember the times but they are stating entry and exit times, well I want to see ticket time as we had to spend ages messing about with the machine and swapping old pound coins. Furthermore if the bloody thing took the old pound coins then we'd probably not be in this mess.
Also if it's £1.60 for 2 hours and they're saying I've paid £2, which is more than half the difference up to 3 hours (£2.20) surely that should pro-rata above the 25 minutes over they now mention? That's also not taking into account this "10 minutes" exit time (again not taking into account it probably took us 10 minutes to sort the ticket out as it wouldn't take old coins, valid in the UK at the time, and kept erroring).
Is there anything I can do here? Any advise would be appreciated, even if you think I'm in the wrong and should just "suck it up".
I've looked at the FAQ and I'll be honest I'm not the brightest, it just confused the hell out of me.

I assume you have a popla code ? yes ?
in which case read recent popla appeals and draft your own , posting it on here for critique
include frustration of contract due to faulty machines and the pound coin issues , grace periods , poor signage , no contract , not the same as beavis etc0
