Sky Q - other options?

We have Sky boxes in two rooms (multi-room).
Just called Sky to ask for a 3rd box and was told that I woudn't have to pay anything extra a month but would HAVE to pay a £214 one-off fee for 3 new Sky Q boxes as they don't do the old ones any more.
Is this true? Is there any way around it? I am thinking of another (no extra cost) option, which is for the third room just to use Sky Go on a tablet/ laptop? Can you still watch on demand programmes on Sky Go or just what is "live" on each channel?

You can still buy the older Sky decoders from other sellers. Don't forget you'd incur a second Multi-Room fee if you want it to mirror your Sky subscription though.0

Also, if you go the Q route, your new wiring won't take an old style box, so, as Q equipment has to be returned, you would not be able to use your old box to view free channels.
Something I hadn't thought of before: Would Q wiring mean that most retail PVRs won't work with your dish ?0 -

It's not the wiring as such but the LNB on the end of the dish. It's easily replaced if the dish is accessible. I'm not aware of any PVR that works with the Q LNB.0 -
We have sky Q in two room and the kids rooms have skygo through their playstations. Channels are more limited than through the sky boxes. So worth checking what channels are available on skygo before using that option. It's fine for us as we have skymovies/kids through nowtv so they use that app for movies and more kids channels which has worked out cheaper than having movies though sky.0
