Confused by eligibility for child tax credits following redundancy

I was made redundant last week and hoped that my household would now be eligible to claim child tax credits. The ‘entitledto’ benefits calculator indicates that we are, however the gov calculator takes my wage between April 16 and April 17 into consideration and states that we’re not. I’m very confused! Are all initial tax credit claims based on income from the last tax year 2016/17 or are there exceptions to this rule at times?

I’d be very grateful for help and advice please, as it’s a very worrying time for use atm. Thanks!
November wins...a book, a designer handbag (worth £550 :T) and a game. I am now an addict and thank everyone for taking the time to share and post. :D

Tax credits are based on the previous year’s income (so 16/17) unless the current year’s income (17/18) has increased/decreases by £2,500.
