O/S Daily Monday 30th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark here, air is much colder this morning. Wasn't happy last night I could here the boiler working but the radiators were cold and I couldn't get any hot water, so decided to check the boiler, and it was flashing a fault code, it's only just been serviced within the last 4 weeks, so I was not happy. I checked the water pressure and this seemed very low so decided to put more water into the boiler, (which is something you're supposed to keep an eye on and keep it up to a certain level), after being switched off and topped up and back on again and re-set - all started working again, so need to keep an eye on the pressure and water level.

Lunch yesterday was roast beef, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrtos, peas, yorkshires and gravy - managed not to ruin the beef and it was all very tasty, LO's in the fridge so will need to use them up over the next few days. Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, sliced and sauted new potatoes, black pudding, mushrooms and beans - easy tea after a long and busy day - schools go back here this morning and it's the first of the month on Wednesday.

Was a lazy day yesterday, just prepped and had lunch, organised pack ups and chilled, spent some time on pc.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

This is the last day of a long weekend for me, though I did have to go to an appointment on Saturday.

I don't have particular plans, though we are having our Sunday dinner this evening as DS was out volunteering last night.

I might have a self-indulgent bath. I might do a bit of work, probably will. I shan't be doing housework.

Thinking of JackieO and family and anyone else who could do with some virtual comfort.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Brr, it's cold this morning, will need to scrape ice off the windscreen before I go for a swim.

Yesterday was beautiful, clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. After putting all the washing out I went for a walk, probably about 4 miles altogether, gathered shopping on the way home. I was quite tired by bedtime!

Washing was dry, just needed to be aired off in the TD. DW emptied this morning and PL made.

    Hope things improve dumpling.
How are you getting on with all your visitors MM?
    Hapy spa day again tru.

    Happy Monday. Take care. XX

elona I meant to say (and forgot yesterday!) thanks for the olive oil and sugar advice

LameWolf Thanks, I know the best thing to do is sort these teeth out once and for all but the thought of it makes me feel sick. I always feel better when someone tells me their experience and I keep popping over to Dental Fear Central to read the forum :D

dumpling I wish I had some advice for you. I hope you all have a better week now that you'll be back in a routine with school, etc. xx

Goldie Chick disappeared for the night again, reappearing first thing this morning. I'm going to have to clip her wing again. Naughty girl.

There was a bit of frost this morning, not much but enough to make car rooves sparkly :D It's going to be cold all day so I'll be wearing my oversized, very warm jumper.

I have some work to do this morning then I'll top up my online shop. There will be a bit of me-time just before lunch, then this afternoon I'm going to go through my scribbly notes about crochet. I jotted ideas down as I thought of them and it's messy - bits of paper everywhere - I need to sort it into some sort of order so it actually makes sense :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a dry and bright morning here, Steve has left for work, Lilly is in the shower getting ready for college and Phoebe and Becky are still asleep as they don't start back to school till tomorrow. I am up, dressed and waiting for the imminent arrival of the grandchildren as I am looking after them for an hour before they start school.

So far I have sorted out and put some washing on and also put a brisket joint into the slow cooker for dinner tonight. I will have a quick tidy round as well but I don't think any visitors are expected today.

My diet has been appalling for the past week so I will be looking to eat much better food for me as I need to be around for as long as I can. Back to the home cooked meals and lots of vegetables. Not a chore as a roast is my favourite meal anyway.

Tru, I have had most of my top back teeth out this past year and I can honestly say it was the best decision for me as I was in so much pain with them it was making my life a misery. I still have more work to be done but I have an extremely sympathetic dentist and he only goes at a pace I am comfortable with. I still get an upset tummy when an appointment is due but the whole dental experience is never as bad as I am afraid it is going to be. I hope your dentist is as kind and gentle as they can be and if not try and find one who specialises in nervous patients xx

Jackie, I hope your lovely DD is feeling a bit better after her op and sending peaceful passing thoughts for Frank. hope you are ok as well as I know what it is like to be the glue that holds the family together xx

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning folks and thanks for the kick start NMLC. Blooming 'eck it was a shock to the system this morning to look out and see the first frosts of the winter. Brrr! I had another restless/sleepless night but this darned arm isn't helping matters waking me up every time I move.

Just caught up on last night's posts and so sorry to read DUMPLING and her lovely family are having a bad time. BIG VIRTUAL HUGS)) is all I can offer but I wish I could do more. Maybe being back in routine after half term might help.

    To add -
Didn't mean to depart so abruptly the send button is so sensitive. I only have to hover over it and away the post goes!

A day of catch up here. Lots of jobs neglected lately and piles of washing mounting up. Our bedding first priority and then caravan/awning curtains etc but no rush for those!! They can languish in the basket till March if needs be!!

I think comfort food will be on the menu today but not brave enough yet to venture into the cold cold garage to have a freezer rummage!

Have a lovely day if you can folks and ((HUGS)) to all the poorlies, sad or worried who need them. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Dumpling I've only just gone back and read your post from yesterday. I'm so sorry that you are having such a difficult time. I hope that things pick up for you this week and that you get to spend a bit of time with your friend. Take care x

I really do need to do some housework today. My good intentions of getting it done yesterday just didn’t happen. I had a serious case of cba and ended up spending the day on the sofa watching tv. I can’t remember what I watched though.

I have an order to collect from M&S that has to be collected by tomorrow, so I really must find the energy to go and get it today. I forgot to collect it when I was in there last week. At least it should be quieter in there today because the schools go back after half term.

    Other than that nothing happening.

    Time for some more tea.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning everyone.

It’s much colder here though no frost yet. Yesterday the grit spreaders were leaving the council depot, no spreading but obviously going to be prepared.

My washing from yesterday is now all dried and aired. I got the bedding back on as I really like the smell when they’ve hung outside. The other set I’ve put back in the drawer.

I’m off to Dunoon later today  and have some chores to get done before then. My cleaner will be here this morning so I need to the day round before I go out.

Not sure what’s on the menu until I root around in the fridge.

Good to see dumpling back. Thoughts are will those who are having a tough time.

There’s a beautiful deep pink just coming into view through my bedroom window - a shepherds warning!

    Happy Monday to all.

JackieO thinking of you and your family.

Back to not sleeping well, I'm so tired. Those thoughts you have in the dark of night.

Think we'll go out for lunch, I won't have to cook.

Hope you all have a good day

A lazy start hubby is on lates so I didn't get up until 7:30 which is the time I used to start work.
Hubby has booked three days holiday but may have to cancel them as his colleague is back in hospital.
I've topped up the fire so the boat is warm and made a cuppa, no plans made for today but I'm very near to finishing my blanket, just the edging to finish so I may do that today.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone,

Like others we woke up to much colder weather today, the heating clicked in for its hour so the bathroom was toasty for my shower which is when I get the coldest.
Need to clean upstairs this morning and the WM is chugging away, I don't seem to have got back into a routine yet after getting Lulu so have decided to go back to my housekeeping journal. Sounds posh but it's just a notebook where I write down the meal plan for the week and also what jobs need doing that week, a list keeps me on track :)
Veggie meal today, Goats cheese and pesto tarts, perhaps with a baked potato seeing as it's turned colder, I did make a fruit crumble yesterday so enough of that for afters.

Thoughts are with all going through rough times, especially Dumpling and her family.

Have a good day folks x
