Dimmable Lights - thought I understood!

Went to local shop to buy some light fittings today and when I looked the ones we liked said "non-dimmable" for the fitting.
I don't understand this at all.
Surely the factor that determines if a light is dimmable is the bulbs? It takes 5 G9 bulbs - the ones we have say dimmable on them.
I went into that shop thinking all I needed to do was get a decent dimmer switch and check the voltage ratings were ok for the number and type of bulb.
What would lead an entire light fitting to not be dimmable?

The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...

It's the bulbs and any associated power supply built into the fitting.
But if the fitting takes 240v G9 bulbs then there wouldn't normally be a power supply, so I'd assume it should be dimmable assuming you use regular halogen G9 with a suitable dimmer.0 -
Lamps most likely non dimmable led type replace with retrofit dimmable0
