British Gas may have broke my heating?

Some controllers are battery operated.
Carefully remove the lower cover on the Danfoss and see if there is a bettery compartment inside and if there is remove the old batteries and put in new ones.
There could also be instructions on the inside of the cover as well.
The cover should just clip into place BUT the may be a screw or 2 on the underside - check before attempting the removal.0 -
There is a screw at the bottom but it's threadbare so I cannot get it off at all.
British Gas Engineer turned up this morning, told him what the problem is to which he replied "That's an electrical problem, you need to get an electrician" and left
Annoyed isn't the word0 -
Screw on the bottom but it's threadbare - not necessarily, it may have been made like that. If it is they are not meant to be removed completely.
Can you unscrew it so that it rattles or shakes about?
Does it screw into what looks like a washer with a bite out of it, like a C shape, probably part of the cover?
If so then the cover should simply push into place over the shank of the screw which is then lightly tightened to keep it in place and you should be able to ease the cover off without doing much if any damage - it will come off from the bottom first and there will be little plastic lugs or clips on the top preventing it from falling off.
Sounds like the Danfoss is the problem and, even if you have to break the cover - BY CAREFULLY PRISING IT OFF ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE - if it gets your heating working you can do a tempo repair with a bit of tape if necessary to hold it on.0 -
Kinda forgot about this ... the BG engineer had removed the Fuse from the power switch to the boiler, which was why the switch wasn't working and also why the wee Danfoss box wasn't working.
Wee local guy came around, worked out the problem and only charged me £20.0 -
Thanks for the update.
Good old BG - you can (usually) rely on them to mess everything up.
Also sounds like you got a good local engineer for the fix - I would make a note of his number for future reference - annual services etc.0 -
A SINGLE channel controller is normal with a combi boiler. Hot water is always "on" and heats on demand,.
If the "fault" is you can't turn the heating on with either MAN or +1 hour, then make sure you fold down the flap, and use the select button to select AUTO mode. Some controllers won't even allow a 1 hour boost if it is set to OFF as it would be over the summer.
There is probably nothing wrong with the programmer, just that it is turned off.0
