Big Spend protection

Hi all, I am after some advice, I will be spending £5000 on Air Fares for a big family holiday next year. I have the funds already so there is no issue there, however I want to ensure that I have my payment protected under section 75. My credit limit at the moment is not sufficent to cover the purchase. Can I pay the £5000 on to card, and thus putting me in credit on my card, before paying for the tickets. I have looked at pre paid cards, but they do not offer the same coverage as section 75, and also they cost. Any help would be apriciated. Thanks.

Almost certainly not, since your card's T&Cs will prohibit pre-loading.
Plus, if they don't provide credit (and they won't, since the first bit of spend is not their money but yours), then section 75 falls at the first hurdle!
And remember, you'd need there to be a D-C-S relationship, so booking through an intermediary could mean no section 75 payout anyway.0 -

Section 75 makes the card provider jointly liable with the vendor.
So most people would put a deposit on a credit card, could be 1p but typically a small percentage, and you will then be covered under section 75.
Section 75 isn't an absolute guarantee or get out of jail card, so careful look at the limitations on making a claim as well.0 -
You don’t need to pay the whole amount for S75 to protect you, just the deposit would do. If you are paying for other family members, for them to reimburse you later, or you are buying tickets in other people’s names, then you have to check that you are covered under the T&C’s.
It’s a bit of a mine field I’m afraid.
Edit: That bigadaj fella got in before me, the swine!I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
Do all of your family have a credit card?
...And are you buying the flights direct from the airline?
Only if you individually pay for your own tickets directly with the airline will you get 100% S75 cover.
If you read all the threads on here some will tell you that they successfully got a payout and others have not.0 -
Have you not considered travel insurance? After all, that is what it is for.0
