You can imagine my horror at at receiving a final bill of £975! I immediately stopped the DD and contacted them disputing the amount.
Apparently they had stopped charging me for electric in April 2012 despite my Annual Statement for 2013 showing what I had used the previous year and their prediction of my usage for the following year. No indication that I was not being charged for electric.
From April - September 2014 there were numerous emails sent. I brought to their attention the Back Bill Code which means they cannot charge from April 2012 but still include that period in the calculations. I had five different final bill amounts each one disputed, I had no explanation as to why they apparently stopped charging me and no answer as to what happened to the meter readings I submitted as they were no longer showing on my account...conveniently!
I forwarded what I calculated my final bill should be, obviously it was rejected as it was far less than their calculations.
September 2014 I contacted the Ombudsman who confirmed they had received my complaint along with copies of all the emails and then it all went quiet I heard nothing from the Ombudsman or EDF.
Fastforward October 2017 I receive a letter from EDF saying they are now passing my account to a Debt Collector for another amount. This now makes it six different final bill amounts.
I'm at a total loss of where to go now. Maybe I was naive in thinking that not hearing from them that the Ombudsman had dealt with it.
I will be extremely grateful for any advice.
The supplier is under no obligation to correspond with you further about this complaint now that you have asked the ombudsman to assist.
Contact the ombudsman, and see what is happening to your complaint that they confirmed they received.
(Don't be surprised if they come back and tell you they responded to your complaint on such and such a date, and as you failed to respond accepting the proposed resolution, they closed the complaint)
You may be left with no option than legal action if you wish to pursue this further.
Good luck!0 -
