Morning.
I'm grappling with an instruction given when trying to update the software on my Bose Colour Soundlink !! speaker.
The instructions are (word for word)
https://www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/support/article/performing-a-software-update-soundlink-mobile.html
Now that reads that there are three connections to be made! Surely I'm reading that wrong.
I've only got the cable which came with the speaker, a USA to USB and the power adapter. How do I follow the instructions please?

Bose Bluetooth speaker update
Connect your device
Perform the following steps to connect your device to your computer:
1. Connect AC power to the device using the included power adapter
2. Plug the smaller end of the micro-USB cable into the device
3. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB port on your computer

You have the power adaptor, so plug that in. You have a cable with two ends. Plug one end (presumably micro-USB) into the device (speaker) and the other end (normal USB) into the PC. Job done! Unless the supplied cable does not have a micro-USB and a standard USB0

I only have one cable and the speaker has only one power socket.
I have a power adaptor which has a socket for the USB end of the cable. The speaker has the socket for the micro end of the cable.
What am I plugging into the power adaptor once it's plugged into the wall socket?
I'm probably being very thick about this, sorry!0 -
So you only have one USB socket and that is how the charger charges up the speaker, getting plugged into the same socket that the lead connecting the PC to the speaker would use?
On the images I've searched for for that speaker there is a round socket for the power and a micro-USB port labelled service. The charger would plug into the round port and the USB to PC lead would plug into the service port.
Try this:
Make sure the speaker is charged, remove the charger and plug the USB lead from the PC to the speaker and run the update. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks - I don't have the connections you show, only a micro socket and an AUX one. My speaker is version 2.
I've done as you suggested and nothing happens. I'll have to speak to their customer support tomorrow.

Does the rear look like this?0

With version 2 you need to connect the USB lead to the charger, charge the battery and then use the same USB cable to connect to PC or Laptop to complete the software update. You do of course have to download the update to your choice of computer and then presumably download it to the speaker.0

Thanks - now the downloading isn't connecting properly, it's all going a bit Pete Tong with the speaker.
I first saw that it wasn't charging or holding the Bluetooth connection properly. Changed the cable, still no joy. Changed the power adaptor, still no joy. Did an internet search to find that the problem can be resolved by doing a software update.
Downloaded the update but it won't install. Thanks for the advice so far, I need to call Bose tomorrow.0 -
Tell us the steps you took to install the update/download.
What operating system do you have on your PC? Where did you download the update from? etc etc
Do you get an error message when you try to download it from Bose's site? Or when you've downloaded it and are trying to run the download? If so, what's the message?0 -
Update:
Just spoken to Bose customer support (I was working Mon-Wed) who were very helpful. By now the speaker was continually beeping, flashing red and telling me the battery was low!
Customer support were great, agreed there was a fault - the Soundlink 2 hasn't got a software update - and has arranged for collection and repair.
I'm just glad it wasn't me being stupid! Thanks for all the help here.0
