Help needed with Glossing Please

I wonder if any one could help with the headache that is glossing!! We are trying to gloss in our house and initially used a water based gloss which has completely oeeled off and we are now trying an oil base gloss. Would you undercoat first? The oil base one has been on overnight and you are able to scratch it any advice as we are at a loss!!! Thank you

You need to key any gloss surface before applying more coats be it old or new paint. First wash the areas with sugar soap, let it dry then lightly sand the area before you gloss.
Personally I always undercoat {after doing above} then gloss but each to their own. Using oil based gloss paint will yellow far quicker than water based so be ready if you are going to stay with oil based to be repainting again in the next year to 18 months0 -

Oil based paints need several days to harden fully - If you painted it on thick, then give it a week or so.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
