Returning 2nd Hand 2002 Honda CRV (bought last week) With Steering Judder
Last week I purchased a 2nd Honda CRV. Nice car clean. But noticed when I turn the steering wheel sharply there is a massive amount of judderting. I did not notice this on the test drive as I didn't have a need to turn sharply. When I spoke to the dealer about it he said juddering was a common issue with 4x4s and that the differential fluid would need to be replaced.
As this was purchased from a trade seller and only last week I'm unsure what my options are.
As a side note I'm also quite shocked about the running costs for a car like this, petrol and tax.

At te time you were told that the fluid needed replacing was it not mentioned at cost to whom?
As for the side note... VED is preset and known, as for fuel economy varies on many factors.0 -
At the time of sale i did not know the car had the issue, replacing the fluid was mentioned yesterday after i contacted the seller0

Take it back and they will change the fluid in the rear differential, it needs the special Honda fluid at about £10.
It is an annual service "extra" that no-one ever does, as Honda charge an extra £80-£100 to put £10 worth of oil in.
The running costs are your problem, not a fault with the car.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Does the the consumer rights act not come into place for cars?0

Yes (for faults), take it back and get them to change the fluid in the diff as they have said.
There's nothing the dealer or CRA can do about the VED or fuel economy.0 -

So now we have the real reason.....buyers remorse.
You have to give them the chance to rectify the problem. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's a 15yo car. How much was it? The most expensive on Autotrader are £2,500.
Your consumer rights are tempered by reasonable expectations - which are not high at all.0 -
The car was only £1000 full years MOT. It's done 178k but is a great runner all apart from the issue with the steering.
The comment about running costs was just a side note.0 -
A grand of 15yo 180k car. And you're expecting some legal restitution from the trade for a bit of a judder that's probably easily addressed with a fluid change or top-up.0
