Acer computers terrible customer service

Options
Hi I brought an Acer tablet. After a few months it stopped charging up.Acer said return it . I did.

A week later they phone me to as there is a small amount of physical damage at the charging point it's not covered by warranty .If I want it back it will cost me £18 to get back unrepaired. Or £90 to get it repaired, it only cost £100 new.

I asked to speak to a manager but was told all their managers are in a meeting for 72 hours. They really are a terrible company to deal with.

In the end I paid £18,so I've got a 6 month old tablet which doesn't work and I've paid extra for it.

Don't buy Acer.

Its normal damage voids warranty .
Did you buy from Acer or are you using Acers limited warranty .Manufacturers warranty is not your legal Consumer Rights .

Hi I probably did but there was no way of telling until they opened it up. My main gripe is that I was charged £18 to get it back. The fact I found the helpline unhelpful and the fact the tablet only lasted six months under normal use didn't help matters either.

I got it from Acer and they weren't interested in customer care. If they had said I could have had it back unworking I could have lived with that. But to charge me £18 to get my property back took the biscuit.

My other tablet from another make has lasted five years so six months is poor anyway.

Yes when I was told the managers were having a 72 hour meeting it did get my back up.

In some ways if I had been told Acer don't care and not to bother them I would have at least appreciated their honesty.
  • You might be able to get a replacement charger port and repair the problem yourself. I don't know how complicated it is to do this. Youtube often has good 'how to' vids on how to do things like this. Just google giving your model number and 'how to replace charge port'. I must admit if a vid mentions welding, then I tend to look for someone else to repair it (ebay/pc shop etc).

Could you not have organised your own pick up?

Charge ports often are a weak point. I tend to be quite careful with them.

    Welding? It's a tablet not a vehicle sub-frame. :D

    Soldering ;)

Thanks for the reply. I've just been on eBay the part is around £3 and there are indeed instructional videos on YouTube. It seems fairly easy to do.

However whilst on eBay I noticed that you can pay less than £20 send off your tablet and get it repaired and sent back tracked.

Acer wanted me to pay £80 for that.

I will get it repaired one way or the other. Thanks Deanatois.
  • It won’t be as easy as a video makes it look - soldering on a micro USB level needs a small iron, decent kit and a very steady hand and experience.

Micro USB sockets are inherently delicate, while it sucks you can’t expect them to return it for free.
Postage and time to assess it cost money :)
