Electric heated pet pads

Hi,

Can anyone recommend an electric pet blanket for my elderly cat, or anyone’s views on them ?. I want her to be nice and warm but don’t want the heating on all the time as I get too hot.

Or, has anyone used the self heating pads and are they any good?.

Has anyone used one on a timer when they are out of the house ?, as most seem to say not to use when out, but I had briefly thought of having it on timer when i’m out at work, but I can use a hot water bottle for that instead, or do the electric ones stay warm for quite a while after being switched off ?.

I had just bought her a lovely new snuggly bed, but she’s dissed that off..... 🙀🙀...clearly not to her liking. :D

Cheers for any advice, experience of them.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Never used a heated pad, but have you tried putting a hot water bottle in the bottom of your new pet bed, leave it for a while to warm through and then apply cat to it?

Our childhood cat had a bed in our outside porch which we used to put a hot water bottle in, he'd stay in there in preference to coming in sometimes.

    Hello

I've got a couple of heat pads which I leave on 24/7 and are designed for this:

I've had others but their favourite seems to be this one, and I've even had 2 of them sharing it as it's a good size.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00SEKOKG8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had some heat pads from Petnap too, had a few reliability issues with them BUT their customer service was excellent and they sent out replacements without quibble.
I think the Art of Paws one is warmer too, it feels warmer to me anyway, and they prefer it because it's foam so more comfy to lie on.

Mine weren't at all interested in the so-called self heating pads. I've got a couple of elderly cats with arthritis and they are so much happier now we have these. They are happy = I am happy
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

I wouldn't like to risk leaving a pet alone with a pad using mains electricity (one of my 14-year-old dogs sometimes wees in his sleep).

You can buy microwaveable 'hotwater bottles' and the one I bought in a fundraiser auction isn't even not enough for my use.

For my own use I have a plush electric pad with 6 control levels that goes off after an hour ? (Not sure as various ones differ).I pay about £12 (on number 4) when Lidl have them in , but similar are over £25 on Amazon. The Lidl ones have a 3 year warranty, under which 2 of mine have been replaced or refunded.

  • I've got a couple of these for my two cats (one very elderly one and one who lives in my garage) and despite both cats spending long periods on them, they don't get too hot.
As they are low voltage (12v), a cat peeing on them or chewing the cable doesn't pose any risk.

  • I wouldn't be too keen on leaving an electric blanket on 24/7! Have heard some horror stories in the past.

I was reading the other day about microwaveable heat pads that seem to be a good alternative.

I bought this one for my cat and he loves it

I just put a small fleece blanket on top and leave it on day and night when its cold and had no problems at all. It doesn't get really hot, just warm and I only have it on the low setting.
    Errrr...come back later ;)
  • I have not used electric heated pads but one of my friend using Riogoo Cat Electric Heating Pad and he is quite satisfied as it is adjustable Warming Mat with Chew Resistant Steel Cord according to him.
