Right,
I'm confused now even after reading loads of pages and doing those calculator and I'm getting pulling my hair out with worry!
If you claim CA what rate of IS will you get to "top it up"?
I'm reading mixed views, some sites say the IS rate is around £73 a week, but then I read it's less CA and that it'll be topped up by £45ish a week IS on top of the CA, so around £105 a week.
Surely this can't be right? £105 for caring for someone day and night? What the hell.
Please tell me this isn't correct how I am seeing this as otherwise my next question is, can I ask for more IS? Living rate is £180 almost a week, so IS is £75 less than this, surely this isn't right

Carer's Allowance is taken into account as income when working out Income Support but a Carer Premium is paid as part of IS. The amounts are (assuming you are aged 25+)
Personal Allowance: £73.10
Carer Premium: £34.95
Total: £108.05
Less Carer's Allowance: £62.70
Total Income Support payable: £45.350 -
The figures given by Robbie64 are correct. I'm not sure what the OP means by 'Living Rate'.0

Minimum wage or living wage?
OP, JSA is the minimum that the government say a single person without kids needs to live on a week. CA and IS together are about £35 a week more than that.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

OP, this information is correct for a single person. If you have a partner, You will receive more (sorry, I don't know how much).
You can certainly ask for more money, but you won't receive any. However, you will be eligible for Housing Benefit or LHA (if renting), Council Tax help, free prescriptions, help with glasses and dental costs.0 -
If you have a partner
IS will be:
114.85 personal allowance
34.95 carer premium
total £149.80
CA will be deducted
so 149.80 - 62.70
TOTAL £87.10
and CA = £62.70
Any work the partner does is declared to IS and earnings will be deducted out of IS.
If partner works 24 hours or more, IS will close.0
