LED Spotlight question

Evening all,

Looking at installing LED spotlights on my landing and hallway.

I am sourcing for the electrician, would people say a 6W or 8W would be preferable for a house late 70's house (not high ceiling property)

Looking at: Thoughts?

It depends how many you are going to have fitted and how big your hallways are

540 lumens is OK if you are going to have two covering each area.
On a normal light fitting, one per room, I would want at least 1000 lumens

Thanks for the quick response, we would be having a sequence of lights along the landing so 7 in total.

500 lumens would be plenty for each then

2 things not covered so far

    1) replacements

The linked items are combined fitting and integrated bulb. In 3 years time if one of the chips breaks, you may not be able to get a replacement, and be left with either 6 old fittings with a non matched new fitting, or have to replace all 7.

thats why I prefer to get standard GU10 bulb holders and then fit GU10 LED bulbs, makes replacements MUCH easier

    2) Beam Angle

As well as needing enough lumens per room, you need the beams to be wide enough to ensure you dont get dark spots or shadows.

For example a 500L 36degree bulb like this one

    36 degree bulb

will cast a circle of light 1.44m wide at floor level, which means fittings cant be too far apart and you'll get more pronounced variation in light/dark the higher you get.

    while a wide angle bulb

    110 degree bulb

will spread the light out over 7m at floor level, giving the walls and a more generaly even light.

The linked fitting doesnt give a beam angle, so no idea if its wide enough.

I much prefer super wide angle bulbs for general lighting, its much kinder and even than focused beams.
