O/S Daily Saturday 28th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight should be pizza, chicken, salad/skinny chips and HM coleslaw. Last night was going to be egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, sauted new potatoes, mushrooms and beans - but decided to swap the menu around, this will be now be Monday nights' dinner. I also bought a joint of beef whilst shopping yesterday that will be Sunday lunch - I don't buy beef very often as I'm not that good at cooking it - so hoping I don't spoil it, butcher said to make sure it's properly rested after cooking before carving - and to not overcook it - we like it medium rare anyway, so I'll do my best. I'll serve it with roasties, mash, carrots, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got the shopping done and put away early, bought a sack of potatoes, did the ironing, did some jobs on the pc, did a couple more loads of washing, got it all dried but had to use TD - although weather was nice just not warm or windy enough here to get it line dried.

This morning I'll be heading into town first thing to visit building society, shouldn't need to spend any money either than buy a newspaper. I'm really trying to cut out the "top up" shops as this seems to be where we spend extra each week - the only thing I should need to buy extra is if we need more bread, other than that extras are not really needed, I have plenty of stocks need to get into the mindset of being able to substitute for something we do have in stock.

Keep safe and well x

Feels a lot cooler here this morning I'm sat here wrapped in a blanket time for the heating to go on soon !

Off to work for me today and I just hope its not as busy as its been all week as I don't think I could cope with another busy few days, roll on Monday when I get my days off.

Got to put my work t-shirts on to wash before I go this morning (still not done it :o ) OH will hang them on the line for me, he will also cook dinner and have a tidy round.

Marie 11 of you ? you had best get yourself to Tru's spa for some relaxation.

    Still thinking of Frank xx

    Welcome back Mrs MH :T

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

JackieO I hope your daughter’s op went well. I hope that your daughter and sil have got back from NY and have seen Frank.

    Welcome back mrs mh

I think a break at Tru’s spa would be really good for all of us. I’ve got a case of some really good sauvignon Blanc in the cupboard and some boxes of truffles, so I’ll bring those.

Went out yesterday to the sm and got some tins of rice pudding. The other thing that I’m eating at the moment because it’s easy comfort food is crumpets and I forgot to get any so need to go out to the shops again today. I need these sorts of foods at the moment. I still don’t feel up to preparing ‘proper’ food.

My community nurse phoned yesterday and my consultant has arranged a meeting with her, the consultant, my doctor and four other people from their service to see what can be put in place to help me. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the thought of so many people being there. I am able to take someone with me but can’t decide whether to take my brother or a friend. My brother is prone to saying what he thinks at times and I’m not sure it would be helpful.

I did manage to get my bedding changed and dried on the line yesterday and it was really nice to get into a fresh bed.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc.

Mmm Holly I like a Sauvignon Blanc :D re the comfort eating please don't think of it as a bad thing, the most important is just taking care of you at the moment, might be worth thinking of a multivitamin every day if you think the diet needs a boost.

Just enjoying the first cuppa of the day before heading off to the yard, it certainly feels colder and the heating has clicked on with the thermostat set at 18 degrees so will wrap up warm. Not a lot planned for today after yesterday being so busy, my friend and I hope to take the horses out this afternoon for a long hack across the fens but that's about it. I picked up some YS W8rose burgers so will have those for supper with HM coleslaw and pot wedges.

Thoughts are with Frank and his family.

    Welcome back MrsMH

Have a good day folks x
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially Jackie O and family.

I've been offline for most of the week as my mifi stopped working the new unit finally arrived yesterday.

No idea what we are doing this weekend.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I too am still reeling at MARIE's "there will be 11 of us" Eeek it's like a mad house here when the 3 DGDs sleep I can't imagine what it would be like with 11 here!!!

I had a better sleep last night - the offending arm wasn't quite as bad - but still up at silly o'clock. Been trying to sort out some finances but my brain wouldn't co-operate so it's been left for another time!

We hope to leave here around 9.00 for our drive to the caravan site to dismantle/transfer all the awning contents etc into the 'van. We have a plan of attack in our minds but don't we always and it always ends up chaotic! Picnic box packed in readiness so just a huge flask of coffee to make up at the last minute.I am not looking forward to today.

Have a better day than me folks and ((HUGS)) for the sad, worried and poorly who want them. Take care all xx I think we are still awaiting news from JACKIE I hope all is as well as it can be.

After 2 beautiful days of sunshine it's back to rain, just for the weekend! Washing can hang on the pulley, hoping tomorrow is better so I can put the bedding out.

DW just about to go on, I'll clean the upstairs bathroom when I've had a shower, downstairs was done last night.

Hoping Frank is comfortable JackieO and your DDs op went well.
Welcome back Mrs MH, good to hear from you.
Your day sounds like hard work TA.

Not sure what to do today, could do with going into Glasgow but the main road at Dumbarton is closed and the diversion will be super busy. May just shop for what I need locally.

Have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

    Day Four
The hair oil works really well so I'll be using that again. I'm not going to search for more pilates videos for now, I'm going to stick to the short basic one for a while but do it three times a day.

Today I'll do two videos, two short walks and file my feet – I really want to keep on top of this, my feet get so dry and sore.

Hester I live near the canal, you could sail here :D

There were only 10 chickens in the shed last night, there should be 11. I left the door open in case one was just late going to bed. She hadn't appeared by 10.30pm so I locked the shed up and went round the garden with a torch but couldn't find her. This morning, just as it was getting light, I heard a warbling, cooing sound so went down the garden – she was stood next to the shed door. Not sure if she was saying 'let me in' or 'why aren't you all out yet?' :D When I opened the door she watched the others go towards the food then toddled off up the other end for a good scratching session :D

I could be in St Ives right now. Mum and dad booked a cottage and asked us a few months ago if we wanted to come down for the week with them. But we already had a place booked in Penzance at the beginning of this month, so we had to say no. Brother, his GF and Little Mate are going instead and now I'm regretting it :D It's a fab cottage, I found it first and stayed there when we all went down together, they loved it and keep booking it and I can't go back because it doesn't allow dogs. I won't put Scampi in kennels, he gets stressed then stresses out the other dogs. Plus I want him to come with us. Beginning to wonder if I should've gone by myself with them IYSWIM – if mr tru can go to Austria then I can go to Cornwall :D

So I'll do my spa-y things and watch a film this afternoon instead.

    Morning everyone.

I’m so miffed at missing the two days of good weather at my place! Haven’t seen it under sunshine for a good few weeks now and today, as camelot wrote, is just phish again. Low grey cloud, a blustery wind and heavy drizzle.

Yesterday was fine. DMs visitor arrived about 10’ish so they spent another hour and a bit talking. Then the visitor and I left for our journey to the airport.

First false start came very early on, just as I started the engine the visitor discovered she’d left her camera in the house. Engine off, camera collected, engine back on. Second false start next; visitor remembered she had a return ticket from the airport bus and so didn’t want taken to the airport but to the bus station in the city. This is directly opposite the big JL shop but I resisted going in.

The drive home was glorious. Being in my own nest is glorious. Being in my own bed is still glorious! I’m for a lazy day even though I have so much marking to do. I’m doing nothing work-related or housework related. Nothing. Think Bruno Mars.

My thoughts are with those having a tough time.

    Happy Saturday.

    Good morning treasures

Grey and miserable here today (and the weathers pretty grim too :D)

Bit of a sleep in today but not that enjoyable my brain is playing gloom and doom games all the time at the moment and can make the smallest niggle seem like the worlds end an the wee small hours :(

Last nights niggle worry was mattress related again. After yesterdays false alarm first thing it did finally arrive mid morning. Its a memory foam one and arrives rolled up in a bag. Well I tried to shift it and get it upstairs but no chance. Its so heavy I cant even move it to the stairs. Now this is the point where my singledom is frustrating ....a nice 6 ft muscle man would be so useful :) Anyway it remains at the bottom of the stairs till I can beg some help from my neighbour.

Todays plan is to get the usual cooking and cleaning stuff started but before that I have my "call in time" call with age uk. I have a new lady to "meet" today which I am looking forward to. I am wondering about becoming a face to face befriender next year which I know I would get so much out of it. James Martin first this morning though...bet he could sort my mattress no problem

Have a good all and big hugs to mamma Jackie xx
  • Morning all, not the nicest of mornings but yesterday was really sunny so complaining seems petty.
    Welcome back Mrs mh.
JackieO I am thinking of you and your family.
I am meant to be having a long weekend off but have an afternoon appointment. However it is is Dudley, a place l rather like so I can go and see how much it has changed recently. Flipping ages on the bus though.
I was quite productive yesterday, washing done, Friday tidy done, dinner cooked, I really should wash the kitchen window today but I really am suffering from a hefty dose of cba at the moment.
I seem to get so far and then think buggrit, I'll go and make a teddy bear. Much more satisfying somehow.
OH has been shopping at M*rrisotto , you all know what that's meant to be but autogetitwrong strikes again and I quite like that one. T*so next week, he shops in accordance with the vouchers we keep being sent. I've just asked him and he says he can't remember when he last shopped without a voucher, we call it a vulture because that's what he's like when shopping. Swoop and pounce.
Hope that everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
