hi,
I printed a recipe directly from a website and the printout was in the right format but what was printed was gobbledygook. I assumed this was some sort of protection from the website, but copy/paste to word worked so forgot about it.
this was a couple of weeks ago, roll on to just now and I've printed off an Amazon return label. now the return bit that you stick to the parcel has printed properly but the printed page also prints the return instructions and again this has printed in gobbledygook.
so it appears printing directly is the issue, but any ideas what?
p.s when I say "gobbledygook" I am 99.9% sure its not a language as there's all sorts of symbols as well as letters printed.
thank you.

You seem to have overloaded the word 'print', making it hard to understand what you're describing:
"the printout was in the right format but what was printed was gobbledygook" - what do you mean by the first "printout" ? Screen display ?
"printed page also prints the return instructions and again this has printed in gobbledygook" - again, does the first "printed page" mean screen display ? (i.e. what you were expecting to see on the paper)
Which version of windows are you using ?
What app are you using to print ? (If you really are "printing directly", as in sending the raw data to the printer, then goobledygook is what you'd expect.)
Perhaps by "printing directly" you mean using the print option from the browser ?
Does the paper copy include things like %!PS at the top ? That would suggest computer is sending postscript, but the printer isn't configured for that. It would be useful to know a bit more about the form of the gobbledygook, but it's obviously hard to describe what I'd be looking for.0 -
It might be worth downloading and installing the latest driver for your printer. The driver was updated in September.

This is usually a driver issue.0

hi & thank you.
updated driver and Win7 Home Premium 64bit.
oddly if I don't use print preview then it prints correctly. I need to use print preview to exclude unwanted pages from the print run.
if I do use print preview what you see below is what it should print and what it does print.

I have just had a problem with my M2070 and the driver update sorted it out.
I would still say yours is still a driver problem but there are a couple of other alternatives here https://word.tips.net/T000091_Printout_Doesnt_Match_Preview.html0
